Forum Roleplay Guidance (FAQs and helpful bits)

Post by GM Yuusha » Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:05 pm

What is a "PF?"

A PF is your Private Forum. Here your character sheet will be kept (locked) and updated. It is also where you can track your timeslots, make rolls, speak to the GM about your character, plot and leave notes for yourself, write a journal, etc. It is your diary, organiser and spam. When your character is approved you will be given a PF sub-forum only you can access. This is the only one you'll get, but make as many threads as you like. Do clearly flag any threads where you would like GM attention. However, if two or more players would like a PF (such as if you're in the same faction and you'd like to plot OOC/IC, if you'd like a private chat but something you'd like the GM aware, if you'd like a private scene or if you'd just like to work on a goal together in a shared space) then please do ask as that's fine.

There will also be a general Private Forum area for members of the Obsidian Angels, which you can use as a place to discuss things privately if you wish, such as event strategy. This is not visible to visitors/guests. There is also an additional area only for Officers, who will be privy at times to additional information.

Signatures

Please include in your signatures your Origin and Career, as well as your Fame and Rank. Only these four are required. However, you may wish to add other details, such as whether you're a noble or not according to your chosen Background, what languages you speak, any obvious Advantages or Disadvantages, commonly carried items and a link to your character description. In essence you can add what you like about your character or that's fun, such as a theme song link, but please no random pictures. Associated characters, such as Servants, Dependants or Underlings, can also be mentioned in your signature.

General Purchases and Inventory

General food, drink and accommodation does not need to be deducted from your funds. These are taken care of by the Obsidian Angels. Premium food and drink, entertainment or other items must be paid for unless otherwise noted. Anything outside the Dropsite must also be paid for, such as from Towns. Unless, of course, you salvage or steal it.

Please track your Inventory in your PF along with your funds. You can also use this thread to make purchases, particularly any off screen or during downtime. If you're unsure if you can find an item or what might be required, ask in your PF.

Crafting

Items can be crafted during the game that one could reasonably expect to be made. The company holds and the planet are fairly full of available resources and materials, as well as workshop space and other facilities. Please make a post in your PF if you wish to craft anything during the game. It will likely require time and possibly expenditure for resources. It may also require Administration to access certain equipment, resources or parts of the Dropsite. Do consult with the GM therefore before beginning any major crafting to find out what is involved.

Some items may be crafted prior to game if the character has access to an appropriate facility and materials. Please discuss this with a GM prior to game start.

Days, Timeslots and Sessions

Day Pattern
Planet's Fall will follow a pattern of 2/2/3 for IRL days to IC days. I.e. 3 IC days per week in real life. Day change will be around 11pm in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Announcements will be made if this is expected to change.

Sessions
These will last 6 IC days / 14 days IRL. Sessional abilities such as Luck will therefore refresh on days 7, 13, 19, etc.

XP will also be given on these refresh days. This XP will be given even if you were away for a session due to RL. However, any player that cannot play for two consecutive sessions will be considered inactive. Inactive players will not get XP.

Time slots

Below are the time slots that will be used for Planet's Fall. Please include the time slot in the thread subject to show when the thread takes place. These can be abbreviated - so Early Morning can be represented as EM.

Examples: Happy fun times (Day 1 Early Morning) or Really long titled thread that makes you say what? (D1 EM)

The time slots below are the only time slots that may be used each day. You may only appear in one thread per time slot per day unless this is waived by the GM permission due to unusual circumstances.

Once someone makes a thread in a location for one time slot then everyone who intends to be active in that location at that time slot should use it to post in. The exceptions are if a thread is closed and a reasonable expectation of privacy exists or the location allows multiple threads. A closed thread in one's own room is fine, but a closed thread in a cafeteria is highly unlikely. Further guidelines on closed threads are below. One can also shorten thread titles using the bold abbreviations below for time slots.

• Early Morning (5 AM - 8 AM) EM
• Late Morning (8 AM - 11 AM) LM
• Early Afternoon (11 AM - 2 PM) EA
• Late Afternoon (2 PM - 5 PM) LA
• Early Evening (5 PM - 8 PM) EE
• Late Evening (8 PM - 11 PM) LE
• Early Night (11 PM - 2 AM) EN
• Late Night (2 AM - 5 AM) LN

Please note: While these time slots are 3 hours each and a full night's sleep is 8 hours it only takes 2 time slots to achieve a full night's sleep. This is contrived as it can be assumed that some of the preceding time slot and some of the time slot directly after a character sleeps is also devoted to getting ready to rest, resting and waking up. A full night's rest recovers wounds as per the L5R 4e Core Book, and it recovers all Edge points.

The Caffeinated advantage and Nightmares disadvantage exist, which both change the number of required time slots for a full rest. Please read them carefully.

Closed threads

By default, all threads are open for anyone to join. If a thread doesn't say if it is open or closed then it will be assumed to be open. All players should feel welcome to join any threads that are open. Some may wish to make closed threads in locations. This can only be done where it makes sense to do so. A closed thread on the beach is less likely than in a room at a hotel. Please apply common sense. Public places and businesses, except those with private rooms, are unlikely to have any private places. Other threads can be closed (please put this in the title, with the exact location if possible or otherwise at the start of the thread) and will not count towards the normal "one thread per timeslot per location" rule.

An example of such a thread would be:

(In the Guest House)
Moonlight troubadour (D1, EN, Harry's Room, Closed)
