Reconnaissance Duties (D2 EM-LA Event Southern Akos Open Country)

With the targets outlined and much of the equipment unloaded, it was time to explore and report back on Zone One. Scout teams are sent out along with drones. Ideally, the seaside town and all four potential military targets would have some recon done against them. Knowledge was power. Information was ammunition. Every little would help. There are numerous ways to contribute to such an effort, including visually confirming details to intercepting communications to mapping the nearby terrain. It would all go toward making the inevitable battles over the site that bit easier.

This event is open to all player characters. Underlings may assist with rolls where it makes sense (they couldn't assist with a piloting roll, but could for investigation) or make a roll independently, at your discretion. This event runs for four timeslots: EM, LM, EA & LA. You only need to dedicate one timeslot of the four to take part. Please do specify which in your post.

Characters should pick a target site first. Successful rolls and raises for actions against that target site will earn Recon points. Failed rolls and failed raises have no effect individually, but every four failed rolls will increase threat by 0.1 to represent your failed actions alerting the enemy. The possible actions, and the required rolls for these, are below.

Each Player Character may undertake one or two actions from those listed. The same action cannot be repeated twice by the same character (or their underlings). There is no limit to how much any one action is done by players. There is always the chance someone finds something that someone else misses.

Recon points will be totalled against each site. They will have effects as below.

The target sites are:
1) Pryvidok
2) Myron Maintenance & Repair Site
3) Communications Relay Outpost Szekeres
4) Southern Akos Militia Barracks
5) Budai Development Inc.

The possible actions are:
• Communications [Awareness] TN 15: 1 Recon point +2 per raise. Represents relaying back information or reporting simple findings.
Free raise if you have a Field Relay (you own or are borrowing from another player character). Free raise if you have Improved Communications as a mech quirk.
• Investigation [Perception] TN 10: 1 Recon point +1 per raise. Represents getting a distant visual on the site.
Free raise if you have a Video Imager.
• Computers (any emphasis) [Intelligence or Perception] TN 20: 4 Recon points +2 per raise. Represents various means of gathering intelligence, from using drones and checking sensors to checking scans and intercepting enemy communications.
Free raise if you have a Comm Kit.
• Navigation [Intelligence or Perception] TN 20: 4 Recon points +1 per raise. Represents gathering topographical information from around the site.
Free raise if you have an Ostscout in your lance. Free raise if you have a Holo Map.
• Tactics [Perception] TN 15: 2 Recon points +1 per raise. Represents making attack plans.

Recon Point effects: (Not cumulative)
0-5: No new information. Attacking the site will cause an additional 0.1 strength loss due to poor intelligence!
6-10: Some information on enemy buildings and static defences. The site description will be made public.
11-15: Some information on enemy defenders and whether there is a BOSS present. Conquering the site will mean 0.1 lower Threat increase.
16-20: Indication of possible salvage boons [if there are any nice secrets]. All information on enemy buildings and static defences. 0.1 fame gain for all who scouted the site and conquering the site will mean 0.1 lower Threat increase.
21-25: Partial disclosure. All Battle titles and general win conditions will be known in advance. Conquering the site will mean 0.1 lower threat increase and an additional 0.1 fame gain for all lance leads. All who scouted the site gain 0.2 fame.
26+: Full disclosure. All key Battle details will be known in advance. Conquering the site will mean 0.2 lower threat increase and an additional 0.2 fame gain for all lance leads. All who scouted the site gain 0.3 fame.

It was early in the campaign, so even small bits of data and eyes on spots were valuable. Building a large understanding very quickly was of paramount importance. At least that's how it was explained to him. He gave zero shits and didn't know why people still tried explaining or convincing him of thing rather than just telling him what they want and letting him take care of it.

And that's precisely what he did. He got out there with his holomap and did some rudimentary pathfinding toward the comms array, identified a few notable environmental hazards. He located some nice spots to use for cover for the long range mechs and tanks if they joined in the assault. Overall it was a solid path. Probably not much compared to what others would provide, but then John wasn't a scout so he didn't expect to do as well as he did. Half expected to get lost.

Right, let's see what these drones can do!

Firing up the machine, Alison checked through the program, giving it a quick test run. One of them dropped down, and got the glare of doom(tm) from Alison, but it was soon back up in the air. she popped her comms on, and began to speak.

"Drone is up, target area sighted. Here's what we can see sweetie."

After blowing a bubble with her gum as the images became more focused, she read out what they could see to the team on the comms to report back.

Mei was curious, maybe too curious, about what the local forces REALLY had up their sleeves. Mapping the terrain around their main base would make things easier when it came time to take it. She shocked by what she found and raced back to base camp to report what she found.

Yori pulls out her newly beloved map and sets to work cross checking its information with the new data coming in from field teams. Before long it becomes clear the map is outdated in a few areas and a few quick alterations are made to bring it up to scratch.

She got as close as she dared in her mech as she took in and took notes of the area. She wished she could make off with a Locust for just this occasion. Still, she got a good look at the area and made her way out without getting shot at.

Gianna was treating today rather like penance after her spectacular bungling at the dropsite the day before. Relaying reports and making sure they were appropriately detailed was as menial of a thing as a company commander could really do, so she and Gorgeous George were parked near a grove of old trees for a good chunk of the morning, monitoring radio traffic from the front-line scouts near the Budai Development site and getting everything documented for the Angels. She was snippy with her lance mates about keeping idle chatter silent so there would be no mistakes or missed Intel on their watch, but Spare, Lights Out, and especially Princess were glad to hear her sounding quite a bit more normal than the previous day.

As the reporting seemed to be going well, and as her lance mates clearly had things in hand, Gianna's eyes wandered to a sketch pad she had strapped below the console. She hesitates, remembering the fiasco with the perimeter layout yesterday. Finally, Gianna decides to start work on a plan of attack for the R&D site.

"I'll only... I'll only share it if it's really good. Not rushing. Just be real thoughtful about this..."

Charlie did what he could for reconnaissance. He was interested in whether this Budai did have a gauss rifle range. While he didn't see it, he did capture some info on imager.

Sadly, he was completely confounded by the code they used and just wasted his others time while on the computer.

Alek took Drakon back out for recon today the mech was big and heavy but it was damn fast for its size. He say Mei as he was leaving and they decided to check out the barracks of the militia.

Alek kept pace well enough and looked at the place from a distance taking note of what he could from that distance using the imager to get a better look at specific spots noting defenses, buildings anything of use. he wasn't the smartest but he could take good notes so that smarter could make use of it. "Well a good number of them but not so many as i thought there'd be." he commented.

he then sat back in his chair and got to tapping out notes and strategies. He wasn't a master strategist but he had been reading some books Monique had recommended and had sat in on a number of command meetings. When he was done he had something he was sure was at minimum serviceable.

Klaus spends a great deal of time behind a screen. His specialty was in Electronic Warfare, and reading scans was his specialty. Passive sensors were a bit harder to read, but they had the advantage of not being an enormous billboard for his target to know he was looking. He collates some data and passes it along, helping to form a complete picture.

Even though he knew the strategic value of the communication system, Richard's curiosity was already piqued and he wanted to know if what Kenna was saying was bullshit or fact.

Richard's own exploration skills were not very well developed, ...., but the AFFC had taught him a few things, including clear communication. He used this training to coodrinate the field scouts and to pass on all knowledge cleanly and clearly. He also gave them tactical instructions during the reconnaissance to get better information out of the target.

Hrafna does her best to get eyes on this weapons development place. Anything she could find would help those who went in to take it so she looked close and took good notes. These notes were then relayed verbally as no one would be able to read the language she wrote in much less the way she wrote.

When it came to where to help with the recon, the choice wasn't particularly hard for Miss Yoko Lee; When it came between grungy sites and a resort town, it was the resort town all the way. And if that just happened to mean using some binoculars to see noblewomen in their bikinis... well, so much the better.

Truthfully, the whole spying thing was more fruitful that way too; She saw and learned a lot more looking around quietly from the rooftop terrace she staked out than actually going into town and reading or talking. This wasn't too surprising to hear; You usually learned the best stuff by seeing or hearing people when they thought no one was around, not when they had something to hide up close.

There was a lot to scout on the initial expedition and it would surely become harder as the local forces became of their presecence. For now, Mary's target was a place that would be more critical as the campaign wore on, the repair site. What sort of defense would they have guarding it.

Information came in through the computers and a good pace.

Int/Computers (Sensor Ops) 25 vs. 20 Pass for 4 points

Mary poured over the data, studying every nuance of what came in.

As the daylight dimmed and the evening hours commenced, all five sites of interest had been scouted. Three had been thoroughly reconnoitred, bringing in a wealth of information to the Angels. A fourth had been largely scouted and the town had a decent pass. There had been two mishaps, but they were both relatively minor. The enemy were not alerted enough to be concerned.

Pryvidok - 13 - Some information:
Pryvidok
Seaside town. Civilian target. Fishing, beaches, tourism, shopping and crafting. There is a lumberyard South-West of town. The town is suburban and flat. It is directly by the beach and the ocean. There are a few resorts, a market and a Militia garrison. Atop one hill on the East side of town is a large bed and breakfast.

Defenses:
• None

Defending forces:
• There is a tiny militia garrison, which guard a small depot, recruitment office, infantry barracks and a single naval patrol vessel's docking point
• Sheriff and town security forces along with some local owned agricultural and industrial mechs

Points of interest:
• No BOSS
• Multiple sub-locations

Bonuses:

Multiple medium sized buildings inside and a few large hangars. Some helipads, a large open paved area with some car park space. Some fortified positions in and around it. Private security forces are supporting Militia defenders; lots of infantry spotted. No power generators have been sighted, but scans indicate a large heat signature underneath the facility. A heavy mech was sighted being taken underground via floor lift.
