The Doctor is Always In (Pregame 2, LE, Medical)

Eilonwy had not been on board The Angel's Descent for as long as most. It had been just enough months for her to finally settle in and arrange things in medical to her preference. The general lighting had been changed to something warmer and softer. Music was always playing at a low volume, usually something instrumental. The temperature was kept comfortably warm. Overall it was a calming atmosphere, especially compared to the cold, stark and sterile environment she had found when she arrived. There were still bright lights, of course, when necessary for exams. And, everything was kept meticulously clean and well maintained. It just didn't feel like a medical facility.

Eilonwy wanted her patients to feel welcome and at home. Considering the amount of time she spent in here, this was effectively where the doctor lived, after all. At the moment, this is where she was reading and enjoying some tea.

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

A light tapping came at the doorframe.

"Hello? Is anyone here?"

Mei wasn't sure if anyone was on staff this late in the day. She looked at the placard on the door.

"Doctor Ainsley?"

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"Yes. Please come in." She carefully set her reading down and stood to greet the sergeant. "How may I help you?"

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

Mei limped into the room, pain wracking her face with each step.

"Its this fucking leg ma'am, hurts like hell and I think it might be infected." She said with real worry in her voice. "Sorry to bother you so late but could you take a look at it?"

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"Of course." She moved to the examination table and lowered it to make it easier to sit on. "Get undressed, if ye don't mind, and sit down."

She closed the door to the consultation room and slid over a tray of tools and a stool for herself.

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

"Umm, sure. All the way?"

Mei didn't really know why she needed to take her top off for a problem with her leg but she wasn't exactly shy either and did as instructed, stripping down to her underwear.

"It just feels like this thing is trying to kill me, it hasn't been getting any better since the surgery and that was months ago now. I've been doing exercises just like the surgeon told me to but it hurts so much lately."

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

She nodded. "If there's an infection, I want to see if there are any signs of it elsewhere. Do you mind if I remove the prosthetic, or would you prefer to do it yourself?"

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

Mei removed the leg and then her underwear as instructed, letting the leg clatter to the floor.

"Well, I'm probably overdue for an exam anyway so have it doc. Sorry, Doctor Ainsley, ma'am."

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"You don't have to be formal, sergeant." She took ma moment to inspect the prosthetic. "I do like the doctor part, but you can call me Elle, like the others."

"Have you experienced any discomfort elsewhere?" she asked as she set the artificial leg aside and raised the table. Soon, she was carefully looking over what remained of Mei-Ling's leg.

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

"Yeah but I figured that was from the workouts, I've been trying to work on my core strength but my back is bothering me a little."

The stump was a mess of raw skin and very red but it wasn't warm to the touch.

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"Most surgeons aren't really familiar with strain you put on your body." She said as she continued her inspection. "They may expect that you'll put more than usual stress on your limb. but they don't understand how much there is. If they don't cut the bone enough, there won't be enough flesh to serve as a cushion. Even if there is, there's going to be pain, with the wear you put on it. I'm going to take some measurements and see if we can make some adjustments to the prosthetic's fitting. Meanwhile, I have some ointment that will help a bit."

She turned her attention to the rest of the woman's body, checking for any additional lesions, rashes or other concerns. "Mostly, it just needs time. It will get better."

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

The rest of Mei's body was in good order, a scar here and there but others free of blemishes and very smooth.

"So how do you like working with OA, have you been here long? Your office is very nice, much nicer than most I have seen. It's comforting to not be sitting in a floating chop shop."

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"It's been several months now. It took time for me to adjust, but I like it here." She took out a jar of ointment and changed gloves. She soon began to gently clean the leg with a spray and some cotton. "I'm sorry, if it's cold. I'll give you something for your back, too. But, refitting the prosthetic should also help a bit with that."

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

"Mmm, no that feels really good." She said as a shudder ran through her body. "You have very gentle hands but you can be rougher if you need to, I'm tougher than I look." She said with a grin.

"So what did you do before this?"

"Mmm"

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"I worked in a lot of public clinics after I finished school." she said. "The work was rewarding in its way, but it didn't pay well. It wasn't much of a challenge, either."

Her touch remaind gentle for the most part, only becoming more firm for a few specific spots. Once satisfied, she carefully dried the skin.

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

"Well I'm sure you'll get plenty of both here, hopefully not more than you can handle at once. As a scout that kind of falls on me I guess, if i don't see things coming people get hurt and I don't want to make things hard on you."

Stiff maybe.

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"You can make things as hard for me as you want, sergeant." She changed her gloves again and opened the ointment. Scooping up a generous amount, she spread it between her palms before massaging it onto the reddened flesh and the surrounding area. "I'll be happy to help you with whatever you need."

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

"Well...ugh...there is one thing."

For the first time Mei seemed genuinely embarrassed.

"My..uhh...my IUD expires in 8 months, is that something you can handle or would need need to find someone in a port?"

[Eilonwy Ainsley]

"We can take care of that. Like I said, anything you need."

[Mei-Ling Zhou]

"Sweet, thanks. So what does the good doctor do in her free time; when we aren't bashing ourselves to hell?"
