The small airfield for paratrooper training and VTOLs is ahead. If those VTOLs get in the air they'll cause damage. Hit the crews making their way toward their vehicles or take them out on the tarmac. We'd prefer to have the salvage, but better safe than sorry. Rush in there and capture the area. More forces are en route!

Objective: [Either cripple the VTOLs before they're manned or take out the infantry. Other targets are secondary.

Note: Infantry squads are 7 soldiers strong. Some of them will be the VTOL pilots. The squad can be taken out in two ways:
1) Kill all 7 members
2) Successfully kick the squad to force them to surrender

If a squad reaches a VTOL it will come online the turn thereafter. Until then they are shutdown and stationary. Should 4 or more VTOLs be undamaged, Impact will increase by 0.1. Should 7 or more be undamaged, Impact will increase by 0.2 and Strength will increase by 0.1.

Alek smiled wide as he sat in his new battlemaster. He had been drilling in it constantly since he recieved it to familiarize himself with the controls and feel of the beast.

He turned everything go and spoke to his Lance "Alright let's take out those soldiers can save the birds for ourselves."

Both Alek's lances mates to the north confirm the presence of shutdown VTOLs and infantry rushing toward them. There wouldn't be much time!

Blocking the way is an anti-aircraft AC/2 variant bulldog and some jump infantry on patrol. There was also a Goblin with its large laser returning from exercises to the north. Aside from that was the dangerous triple AC/5 turret in the south-east of the base.

Two of the squads of infantry were sitting in faster moving buggies. Something to note. (Both mechanized squads will move 2 hexes a turn).

There were also some SRM troops in the centre of the base, but they were not an immediate threat.

(knowing we were going into a anti infantry mission hope its ok if all the SRMs are loaded with inferno missiles)

Alek saw the layout and pushed his mech forward prioritizing the closest motorized squad trying to light them up with his lasers and sparing some missile fire for the nearby squad.

"Remember taking out the troops is our priority. Whip, run the Cicada up to those squads on the left shoot them if you have to stomp them if you can. Hammer and nado hit that squad on the right and get over those walls to engage the squads on the other side." he said as he moved

The Valkyrie and Shadow Hawk both move ahead and focus the majority of their weapons on the nearby infantry squad. They only land a few hits however, but it's enough to whittle down the squad's numbers by more than half (4 men killed). The Cicada has more luck with its machine guns, laying waste to the foot squad in the south (dead!) and even killing taking a couple of men in the mechanised squad with its PPC (2 dead). They are finished off by Alek!

Almost as an after thought, Alek turns to target the turret that was powering up. He hits it with a few SRMs. It wouldn't ordinarily be enough to destroy it, but one missile goes right through a viewing port and into the ammunition storage. BOOM! The whole building explodes into flaming shrapnel. Nice! (Turret very dead!)

Return fire against the lance is mostly harmless. A few SRMs from the Bulldog clip the Shadow Hawk (4 damage LT, 2 damage RA, CT). Its AC/2s track the Valkyrie. One lucky arm hit severs a lower arm actuator on the mech, but it has no weapons in that arm so its not a big problem (2 damage LA, critical hit, Lower Arm).

The Shadow Hawk then kicks another man and the remaining man puts his hands up in surrender. Smart.

The infantry continue to rush toward the VTOLs. The Bulldog stays where it is while the Goblin races over the hill toward the intruders.

Alek walked forward trying to take out the jumping squad before they went over the wall firing srms and lasers at them while taking a pot shot at squads over the walls with his LRM

"Whip keep hunting down those foot troops if they don't want to surrender show no mercy. Hammer, Nado press on over the base stomp that tank on your way or jump over the walls if you need to. Need to stop that other motor unit." He commanded

The Bulldog turns its turret to shoot at the Valkyrie. The light mech is struck in its left side by a volley of SRMs and AC/2 hits (4 damage LL, 2 damage LT, LA). The SRM infantry also shoot the Valkyrie, including landing an SRM on the cockpit ferroglass (2 damage HD, 1 pilot hit, 2 damage CT, 1 damage LT).

Meanwhile the Cicada takes a little damage from the laser squad (1 damage LT) before wiping them out with its machine guns (all dead!).

Likewise, the jump platoon tickle the Battlemaster (2 damage CT) only for 9 of their number to succumb to pulse laser fire (9 dead, 12 left in the jump platoon).

Finally, the Shadow Hawk wipes out the infantry squad north of it (all dead!). For good measure it kicks the medium tank by its foot up the backside. The damage is immense for just one kick, forcing the crew to bail (11 damage RR, major damage, vehicle immobile).

There was something weird going on with Alek's targeting systems and scanners. They probably needed more tuning. Both were suggesting there was smoke and a fire on the other side of the building, drifting up into the air. He couldn't actually see anything like that however!

(Ignore the VTOL exploding - megamek was being weird. It's still there)

Alek wasn't in the best spot but turned and headed for the entrance and fired lasers at the Goblin trying to come in from behind.

The Valkyrie runs north and west, Nado managing to keep the mech balanced even running across pavement. The Shadow Hawk and Cicada follow Alek's commands too. Both move to engage one of the remaining infantry blobs. Weapons fire strikes all four mechs, but nothing breaks through their armour. The Cicada responds by eliminating a third squad, proving that machine guns were extremely good at anti-infantry work. The Shadow Hawk and Valkyrie only manage to take out a couple, but their kicks quickly persuade the survivors to stop and put their hands up.

Alek returns fire on the Goblin, doing minor damage yet battering its armour. With everything else eliminated its just him and the Goblin. It backs up slightly, not liking being greeted by an assault mech, but he pursues. Another burst of fire and it surrenders!

(All enemies eliminated! Congratulations!)

All eight VTOLs were claimed safely. Alek's systems were also working again. Better have those checked out just to be sure, but all his lance were reporting no major damage. They'd have to guard the area for a hour and a bit, but then some infantry arrive - a couple per vehicle each encourage the surviving VTOL pilots to fly the vehicles back to the dropsite... under armed guard. The other remaining salvage would have to wait. It was time to head back for a mission debrief. Apparently there was only one remaining point of resistance and it was being dealt with.

(Impact increases by 0.2 and Strength increases by 0.1.)
