Chase Down the Convoy 1 (D12 LA Ninovo Combat)

As the afternoon rolls on you arrive at the Supply Depot to help reinforce it. There is still some sporadic fighting going on inside. As you spread out across it you are shocked to see the tail end of a convoy of vehicles leaving one of the hangars and speeding north. A moment later and a spotter VTOL reports sightings of loaded flatbed trucks among the escaping units. An urgent communication from Eric's Battlemaster follows.

"Stop that convoy and seize those trucks immediately!"

You had better hurry, but be careful about their escorts.

Objective: Seize the goods on the four flatbed trucks: For each truck that is beyond destroyed or escapes, Impact will be lowered by 0.1. You can attempt to shoot the trucks, but the safest way to ensure their surrender is a melee attack.

As Ez's lance move north they each report in what they can see of the convoy. It was four flatbed trucks, a heavily armoured large APC followed by an AC10 Hetzer, and an SRM variant Goblin and a Bulldog guarding the rear.

They appeared to be moving west and then north to get to the road where they could go faster compared to trying to move across country. The APC, detecting enemies, slows down to drop off infantry in a fortified position.

"Trash him," Easy opened up her throttle, "Sierra, looks like we need to hurry up or will be late to the dance."

"Copy. You'd think these militia types would be tripping over themselves to dance with us."

Easy moves up and fires her AC/10 confidently into the SRM Goblin, moderately damaging its right side and slowing it down. She also hits it with a medium laser, but her SRMs miss (15 damage RS, moderate damage, +2 to driving skill rolls, -1 MP, minor damage, +1 to driving skill rolls). Sierra follows up with AC/10 and medium laser shots of her own (10 damage FR, 5 damage RS, moderate damage again). Its right side looked very messed up at this point.

Tango opens up on the Hetzer while carefully remaining out of its forward facing line of fire. She only gets two hits, but they're very good hits (5 damage RR, heavy damage, +3 to driving skill rolls, 1/2 MP, 5 damage LS, moderate damage, +2 to driving skill rolls, -1 MP). Unable to see the same target, Foxtrot shoots the APC instead (13 damage LS). It was damn tanky.

Back to the east, the Goblin turns its turret and opens fire on the closer threat - the Centurion. Eighteen SRMs are launched in a big salvo, but only 8 of them hit. The damage seems minor until the eight one slips through a shoddy piece of armour to pierce deep into the mech's left torso. It explodes right next to the LRM10 ammunition bin, setting it off and causing the mech to violently explode as each missile goes off. The auto-ejection system just triggers in time, Sierra being shot into the sky amidst a fireball, her mech saving her at the last possible second. She's burned and scratched, but she'll live - she lands safely in the open and immediately leaps into cover. Her burning wreck of a mech topples over as more of repeated small explosions tear apart the remains (Centurion is destroyed).

The Vargr hits the Hunchback with a couple medium lasers (5 damage CT, LA), but it pales in comparison to the destruction of the medium mech from one lucky SRM.

The convoy continues slowly over the off road terrain. The APC and Hetzer both split off to try to hold off the two mechs.

"Mission FUBAR?" Tango asked as Sierra screamed over the comms, "We scrubbing it?"

"Calling this in for further orders. Keep up pressure."

"HQ, this is Easy. Operation is no longer viable for profit," she called in, "Requesting clearance to change parameters and prioritize elimination of primary targets over salvage potential."

Ez closed in on the Goblin. Like Sierra, she had moved into its short range however. That would come back to bite her. For now, she shoots it with her weapons, landing multiple hits but missing its fragile right side. Fortunately, one medium laser does manage to immobilise it (17 damage LS, 13 damage RR, moderate damage +2 to driving skills rolls, -1MP, 2 damage turret, vehicle immobilised).

Tango, still shocked at the rapid change of situation, misses a few easy shots at the Hetzer. She does strip some armour from it at least (13 damage LS).

Foxtrot hits the Vargr with her large laser, melting away some turret armour (8 damage TU).

The militia gave as good as they got however. The SRM platoon hit the Hunchback repeatedly (4 damage LT, 2 damage RL, 3 damage RA) and the Hetzer lands its AC/10 hit too (10 damage LL). The Vargr also chooses to fire at the closer medium mech (2 damage LA, 5 damage LL). Tango barely manages to keep the mech upright as it wobbles under the fusillade.

Ez's Orion turns into a vibrating box as it is rattled with SRMs. Her luck is used up as she evades two hits to the cockpit by the skin of her teeth (8 damage LL, 6 damage RA, 4 damage RT, LA, 2 damage LT, both edge used, 0 edge left). She keeps the mech on its feet as the Goblin crew exit the immobile tank.

Tango gives the Hetzer a kick, opening up its left side (10 damage LS). All three remaining mechs were growing warmer.

The Hetzer crew bail, leaving only the APC and the Bulldog to defend the four trucks.

"This is HQ. Make do with what you have Easy. Primary objective remains unchanged, repeat, objective is to prevent the trucks from escaping."

"Affirmative," Tango spat in her cockpit, "That fucking APC dumped another batch of launcher toting infantry."

The SRM platoon in the woods switched to the Griffin jumping near them, doing surprising amounts of damage (4 damage LA, 3 damage RL, 2 damage CT, RT). The others moved or were dropped off, so neither was ready to fire. Small blessings.

The Vargr hits the Hunchback with its two turret lasers (5 damage RT, LA), reducing the armour on its left arm to worrying low levels. Easy and the Bulldog exchange fire, but mostly miss one another except for a single medium laser hitting the Bulldog and doing good damage (5 damage RR, moderate damage, +2 to driving skill rolls, -1MP), while Foxtrot misses the fast moving truck.

Tango gets some revenge on the APC with her medium laser return fire (10 damage FR, 5 damage LS, moderate damage, +2 to driving skill rolls, -1MP).

The flatbeds were all moving onto the road now. One was speeding along it in fact. The Bulldog pivots around to cover their retreat alongside the APC. The SRM platoon that were forced out the APC flee north rather than fight! No wonder they were the last out.

Ez's Orion tears big holes into the Bulldog tank (18 damage LS, 10 damage RR, 2 damage FR, minor damage, 4 damage TU, critical hit - large laser malfunctions). Tango also does good damage to the APC (15 damage FR, moderate damage, +2 to driving skill rolls, -1MP). Finally, Foxtrot fires at the trucks, but only hits one with LRMs. Nonetheless, the missiles rip open the flatbed... doing just enough damage to destroy it (Flatbed #4 destroyed).

The Bulldog hits the Orion with its laser before it is disabled, sizzling the arm (8 damage RA), and the Vargr continues to chip away at the Hunchback (5 damage LT, RL). The infantry miss their shots.

Going for a kick, Foxtrot is shocked when the truck skids out the way. She loses control of the Griffin, it still being new to her, and she falls over (5 damage RA, 1 damage LA, 1 pilot hit). She ends up with a a number of bruises from bouncing around the cockpit.

Two trucks moved north east, about to escape. Another followed close behind. The Bulldog moved back to provide cover fire for them as the APC launched itself madly toward Tango's mech!

Things were going badly. "Ain't got no luck on this rock..."

Having moved closer, the Hunchback was a prime target for the SRM troopers. Fire blossoms across it from repeated missile impacts (6 damage RT, 4 damage RA, 3 damage LA). Then the APC adds its own fire, stripping more armour from Tango's mech (2 damage RA, CT, 5 damage RT). She gets her revenge with her own weapons fire, causing major damage and immobilising it. She kicks it for good measure and the crew quickly bail out with their hands up. It takes some effort to restrain herself from treading on them.

The Bulldog targets the Orion, hitting it with 5 SRMs (6 damage LA, 2 damage RT, RL). The heavy mech takes the beating well. Hardly bothered by the impacts, Ez can focus on shooting fish out of a barrel. Her weapons are overkill on the unarmoured trucks and both she and Foxtrot let them have it (10 damage RR of truck #3, destroyed - courtesy of Ez, 5 damage FR of truck #1, destroyed - courtesy of Foxtrot). The Griffin pilot follows up by stomping on the right side of the last truck, crunching both wheels and bringing it to a safe stop.

With all four trucks destroyed, two completely blown up, and their weapons lacking the range of those possessed by Ez's mechs, the infantry and Bulldog crew either surrender or flee. They'd be picked up later.

((All objectives completed! Congratulations!)

Later inspection of the trucks would reveal the contents of two were largely destroyed or otherwise rendered useless by the damage sustained from anti-mech weapons fire. Only one was damaged just enough to render it inoperable and only one was more safely stopped with a melee attack.

(Impact lowered by 0.2)

Nonetheless, the convoy had been stopped. The mission was a technical success. It likely didn't feel it with Sierra and Foxtrot needing medical treatment, the Centurion being in pieces and Tango being left in a bad mood.

"We need need anti-infantry measures boss," Tango said training her guns on the surrendering missile troopers, "We're lucky they gave up so easy. I thought I was facing the end there for a second."

"Foxtrot can you go find Sierra?" Easy asked as she watched in disbelief as the tank surrendered.

"Sure," she blasted off back up the hill, "Poor Easy. Don't got no hands."

"It is that mech's biggest problem. All fight, no utility," Tango added in.

"Shut up," Easy sighed, "I should probably not smash this tank in a rage, right?"

"It is likely the only thing with a hope of saving this op financially. Unless the truck I kicked is full of gauss rifles," Foxtrot added as she hopped towards where Sierra's Centurion blew.

"What a shit show. I'm reqing some infernos first thing when we get back..."
