Team Building (Pregame 1 LM, Gym)

John keeps his hands at the ready, in case trembling becomes muscular failure, providing a gentle boost to finish a rep if needed.

"If your life is on the line honor means nothing," Butcher says matter-of-factly. "Kill them before they kill you. Finish them so they can't come back for revenge." There was a cold violence to his words.

With a restrained heave Yori finishes her set, sitting up slowly and gently moving her arms.

"Sergeant Slaktare I believe we share similar views regarding the application of violence. Does yours also stem from previous trauma?"
Yori is a bit slower to clean the bench this time.

Lawrence eventually takes the bench for a final set. As he does so, John replies with a shrug. "The trauma in my life and my view on surviving combat are unrelated. Just learned early on that honor is only really needed in sport and agreements. Combat and survival got no place for it."

After Lawrence's last set, he spots for Butcher and gives his two cents. "I'm not trying to leave a widower, single parent, and my kids behind. Let someone else die for their honor. I've got people to take care of."

John goes through his final set and needs a bit if a hand on the last rep, only getting it about 90% done by himself. He wipes down the bench.

"One more set for you? Or next exercise?" John asks.

"Interesting. Would either of you agree to a formal duel in a combat scenario?"
Shaking her head slightly at the last question

"Next exercise I believe, I am already experiencing the appropriate muscle fatigue."

Butcher nods. "Tricep extensions. Smaller weight," he responds, wiping down the previous dumbbells before putting them back.

"And if there was something to be gained from it, sure. But not just because someone wanted a fair fight for themselves. If I got the advantage I'm using it. If a fair fight benefits me I'll go for it. Some folks believe in that stuff and would feel guilty fighting in uneven odds. That is a weakness on their part. Hell, if I suspect someone will come after me for revenge after ejecting, I very well might stomp on them to avoid it. Damned if I'm getting killed cause I let someone live."

He took up a lighter set of weights and began a set of tricep extensions.

Butcher nods. "Tricep extensions. Smaller weight," he responds, wiping down the previous dumbbells before putting them back.

Yori watches silently for a few moments before selecting her own smaller weights and moving to copy his movements.
"What if stepping on that person causes their friends or family to seek revenge? Something similar to that occurred in my career."

Lawrence does a set of his own but keeps quiet, this being an area he disagrees on. Although he's rehashed it with Butcher half a dozen times before and uninterested in doing so again.

For her part Yoko listened and stretched, using a bar and mirror like one might at a ballet studio. It was too early... or least it felt too early. It was really hard to tell out here.

Either way, she did not hide the fact she was listening in by trying to be coy about it.

"Family and friends might try to kill your if you're enemy's core blows and they die. It sometimes just don't matter."

"That is a reasonable position. I am not aware of that occurring in relation to myself, but it is possible it has and nobody has informed me of it."

Continuing her set
"May I ask a more personal question along this current line of discussion?"

Butcher looks to Yoko and nods. An obvious indication that he recognizes her and she can join them if she wishes.

"Hope you don't have to deal with that either." Butcher says. "Go ahead and ask."

Lawrence does a set of extensions himself, curious what her question will be.

"If your primary goal is to preserve your life then why become a mechwarrior? The career's exceptionally high casualty rate is not conducive to a long life free of serious injury."

[Yoko Lee]

Having finished stretching, the Combine woman tosses her small red towel over her shoulder and walks over to Butcher.

"Good... morning, I suppose it would be. I'm not interrupting then?"

[John Slaktare]

"Just seemed like you were more interested in listening than working out. Can hear better from over here. And contribute if interested," he says to Yoko. "Tricep extensions if you are up for arms today."

He looks to Yori. "And because I got pretty good at it. And it paid the bills when I needed it to. Now I keep it up cause it's the only job I really know."

Having finished stretching, the Combine woman tosses her small red towel over her shoulder and walks over to Butcher.

"Good... morning, I suppose it would be. I'm not interrupting then?"

"I do not believe so. We were exercising while debating the use and purpose of lethal force."

He looks to Yori. "And because I got pretty good at it. And it paid the bills when I needed it to. Now I keep it up cause it's the only job I really know."

"I see, so it is force of habit?"

[Yoko Lee]

"I was stretching; I don't wake up all limber and sunshine coming out my..."

She checked herself, clearing her throat, "Anyways I'm actually here for jogging on the treadmill; Help build up my stamina and all."

Not that a radio operator had much use for aerobic stamina, but one could never be too careful in a mercenary company.

She didn't really have anything to add on a topic about lethal force... yet. Needless to say, her opinion was likely colored a little different than a mechwarrior's might be.

"I never got sunshine coming out of my ass or anything else either," he replies with a nod, apparently not put off by colorful language. "Glad for it too. Last time I saw sunshine coming from someone, they'd been the target of lethal force. Never good to have holes that size in your torso."

He pauses his set for rest.

"You either got awesome genetics or a devoted workout schedule to keep things that tight. But I don't think our workout schedules overlap much," John says, appreciatively. No leering or ogling accompanies the comment. He just sips his water and watches Lawrence's and Yori's forms during their sets.

[Yoko Lee]

"So literal."

She kind of shivered at the thought of holes through her big enough to let light through.

"I think I'll leave that image out of my mind and get to working out."

Yoko glanced over at Lawrence and Yori before back at Butcher, "Even if I'm not interrupting, I can always chime in as-needed from the treadmill. Certainly for myself, staying fit isn't gentic. Wish it was..."

[John Slaktare]

"Same. Takes work," he says. "But like I said, you definitely keep it tight. Always nice to see folks take their workout seriously," he says with a nod. "The folks it comes easy to don't understand the effort and drive."

He starts back up with his next set.

[Yori Hakamada]

"You are permitted to chime in from the treadmill officer Lee, even if you are not genetically predisposed to fitness. When I was six my father told me I was pudgy, I have pursued a strict diet ever since. I strongly agree with the both of you that effort and drive are the most important part of exercise, second only to not being so badly injured by combat that you are unable to."

[John Slaktare]

John nodded. "Such habits do tend to start as kids. For me it was working on the dairy farm. Moving around equipment and working in the stock room, I got used to manual labor. Now I don't feel right if I don't work out most days," he says with a nod. "Becomes almost a ritual."

[Yoko Lee]

Yoko DID head over to the treadmill as the others talked, not terribly far away with the limited onboard space. She responded as she set it up for her preferred settings, "I'd love to skip working out if I thought I could get away with it. Just naturally stay in shape... Not in any danger of becoming 'pudgy' anytime soon, but I never did have much of an appetite for sweets or such."
