Player Etiquette, Conduct and Behaviour
Site Rules:
• This is a forum for the enjoyment of the players of this game and its GM. Harassment, abuse, discrimination and cheating will not be tolerated. Players will be given one warning for any such behaviour and a chance to mend their ways. Further negative behaviour will result in an immediate ban. Situations that are not so serious will likely see you being messaged with a concern or a request, such as "please tone down the language" or "don't use ALL CAPS in so many of your posts". These are not official warnings, but do listen to the GM... as I try to proactively keep the peace.
• Respecting the GM and acknowledging the finality of any decisions made is also part and parcel of this. You are welcome to discuss issues with me and to even debate a matter, but a final decision should not be argued with.
• Respecting other players is also very important. If you have a concern with another player, you are encouraged to message them to resolve this before involving a GM. This also means respecting the forum purpose. Come here to play, chat and have fun. Don't come here to flame, complain or attack others. Everyone has a bad day and you're welcome to whine about that in an OOC post or on Discord, but complaints or criticisms about the game should be messaged to a GM. Complaints about a player should also be kept private. While whining and ranting are potentially fine IRL, they should be done privately with those who want to listen to you; not here. We all just want to play. If you're ever feeling really stressed out by the game, take a break for at least an hour. If that doesn't work, try a full day. Sometimes this really helps to move on or put things into perspective.
• You can message me at any time; in your PF, via a private message or via email or Discord (or indeed other chat). Everyone is always welcome to email me. I try to be accessible and friendly, so please don't feel too intimidated or nervous to approach me about absolutely anything concerning the game.
• Not safe for work (NSFW) material should be clearly marked as such. We'd like to keep this site work friendly. No, that doesn't mean no sexy, but it does mean the NSFW elements should not be public. Any thread IC that may become or is about to be NSFW should use /fade to black (/ftb for short) in a post. The thread should then either be ended, as the scene literally fades, or it resumed after the NSFW element has run its course. This is what private messages are for people. As a reminder, such content can make others uncomfortable if publicly visible or get them in trouble with work. In short, romance, lust and simply having a shower are all acceptable, but avoid any NSFW details. Those who would like a shared private forum may ask for one.
• When engaging in any such scenes, please make sure the player(s) of the character(s) involved are fine with what is happening. You can attempt to kiss another character suddenly, even if their player hates it, but bedding them without OOC player consent to the story development is not okay. If you are uncertain if something is NSFW then you can generally assume it is and err on the side of caution, but feel free to ask.
• God-modding is also not okay; this is declaring your character does anything to another character without allowing them to respond. E.g. "Taro picks up Kei and throws him into the pool." Let characters respond. "Taro goes to pick Kei up to throw him into the pool" is better.
• Metagaming is a big no-no in this community. This is using OOC knowledge IC to your advantage. An example would be knowing certain events likely due to happen in 3050 and acting upon or sharing this information as your character. Your character doesn't know, so don't do it. Also, if you know another character's character sheet or backstory submission as the player shared them with you, please do not share the details with others without the player's permission. While simply polite, this is also to reduce the risk of potential metagaming, such as being aware X has a Dark Secret and going rooting around for it.
• Don't roll more than once for a roll without permission. Flag the issue to me if you make a mistake. Generally, if you rolled 6k3 when you should have rolled 7k3 or you forgot your emphasis, the first roll (with the incorrect and worse dice pool) will stand. If, however, you rolled with a better dice pool than your character has, I will usually ask for this to be rerolled. All rolls are visible on Orokos and players, and myself, do end up looking at these. If you've tried to roll 6 times for something it will be pretty obvious. Also, remember to add "Planetsfall" as the Campaign for your Orokos rolls for this game.
• Expy characters are not allowed. These are characters that are blatant copies of existing fictional characters. E.g. Amuro Ray from Gundam or any named canon Battletech character. Please don't try to make an actual recreation of a historical person either, even if you rename them. A character submission for Little Leon, who is a diminutive French man that was a General and an Emperor on one world before his exile is right out. On the other hand, do be inspired by real people and fictional characters, do pay homage to them if you like or incorporate elements of them into your character. Just make sure its your character and not a copy of them.
• I may add to these rules over time. This thread will be updated if any changes are made so that players are kept informed.
• If I need to break out the scary red font GM text of doom then you are urged to take immediate note. The GM is displeased and wishes to settle an issue, to make a final announcement or for players to cease and desist with something. I hope to not have to use this, or at least to only have to use it sparingly. Please be kind to your GM as I'm running this game for free.
