Reconnaissance Duties Part 2 (D8 EM-LA Various Event)

With Southern Akos secured, it was time to explore and report back on Zone Two. Scout teams are sent out along with drones. Ideally, all four potential military targets would have some recon done against them. Knowledge was power. Information was ammunition. Every little would help. There are numerous ways to contribute to such an effort, including visually confirming details to intercepting communications to mapping the nearby terrain. It would all go toward making the inevitable battles over the site that bit easier.

This event is open to all player characters. Underlings may assist with rolls where it makes sense (they couldn't assist with a piloting roll, but could for investigation) or make a roll independently, at your discretion. This event runs for four timeslots: EM, LM, EA & LA. You need to dedicate two timeslots of the four to take part, due to the distance from the dropsite. Please do specify which in your post.

Characters should pick a target site first. Successful rolls and raises for actions against that target site will earn Recon points. Failed rolls and failed raises have no effect individually, but every four failed rolls will increase threat by 0.1 to represent your failed actions alerting the enemy. The possible actions, and the required rolls for these, are below.

Each Player Character may undertake one or two actions from those listed. The same action cannot be repeated twice by the same character (or their underlings). There is no limit to how much any one action is done by players. There is always the chance someone finds something that someone else misses.

Recon points will be totalled against each site. They will have effects as below.

The target sites are:
1) Ninovo Supply Depot
2) Jericho Prison
3) Arnad Air Base
4) Camp Kerkina

The possible actions are:
• Communications [Awareness] TN 15: 1 Recon point +2 per raise. Represents relaying back information or reporting simple findings.
Free raise if you have a Field Relay (you own or are borrowing from another player character). Free raise if you have Improved Communications as a mech quirk.
• Investigation [Perception] TN 10: 1 Recon point +1 per raise. Represents getting a distant visual on the site.
Free raise if you have a Video Imager.
• Computers (any emphasis) [Intelligence or Perception] TN 20: 4 Recon points +2 per raise. Represents various means of gathering intelligence, from using drones and checking sensors to checking scans and intercepting enemy communications.
Free raise if you have a Comm Kit.
• Navigation [Intelligence or Perception] TN 20: 4 Recon points +1 per raise. Represents gathering topographical information from around the site.
Free raise if you have an Ostscout in your lance. Free raise if you have a Holo Map.
• Tactics [Perception] TN 15: 2 Recon points +1 per raise. Represents making attack plans.

Recon Point effects: (Not cumulative)
0-9: No new information. Attacking the site will cause an additional 0.1 strength loss due to poor intelligence!
10-14: Some information on enemy buildings and static defences. The site description will be made public.
15-19: Some information on enemy defenders and whether there is a BOSS present.
20-24: Indication of possible salvage boons [if there are any nice secrets]. All information on enemy buildings and static defences. 0.1 fame gain for all who successfully scouted the site. Strength loss reduced by 0.1.
25-29: Partial disclosure. All Battle titles and general win conditions will be known in advance. An additional 0.1 fame gain for all lance leads. All who successfully scouted the site gain 0.2 fame. Strength loss reduced by 0.1.
30+: Full disclosure. All key Battle details will be known in advance. An additional 0.2 glory gain for all lance leads. All who successfully scouted the site gain 0.3 fame. Strength loss reduced by 0.2.

Alex seemed to be getting better in this hacking communications. The Penguin got some info on the supply lines. The Penguin relayed the information adequately.

Butcher heads out to identify any particular targets that he can at Kerkina. He was able to spot some good soft targets inside the perimeter, but he was having trouble coming up with an angle of attack. He just wasn't reading the terrain right.

She had largely recovered enough to go out for a little recon work. Inevitably they'd be attacking the Camp so she focused her efforts there.

Perhaps spreading the Angels out too wide wasn't the best idea....but leaving something as important as the air base completely blind to their sensors wasn't a great call either. So out Mary went in her GRF-1N to see just how much more of an air force these jokers had. The earlier warriors had been merely annoying, and the crashed air transport didn't speak of a crack air force. Maybe they just had some hot air balloons left?

Once again, the griffon's sensors did their job quite well. Perhaps Mary could've pushed them a little bit harder, but you had to weigh the risks.

Then it was just a matter of communicating the findings back. Hopefully the encryption would hold. There was really nothing worse than people finding out they were being scouted by a hostile force.

A strike as deep into enemy territory as the barracks was risky, but less so than the airport or prison. None the less for there to be any hope of success they needed to learn more about the area, so like last time Mei went out and mapped the terrain; this time taking sensor readings as she went.

"You guys are so fucked, just wait they'll have no choice but to turn those tanks back or lose the whole damn island."

Charlie heard Kenna was interested in the prison, so he decided to see what he could find out. He manages to decrypt some of their coded messages and gets a wealth of info.

Later, he goes with the scouts to see what he can find out and comes back with a decent amount of info of the layout area.

In the early afternoon Catherine sets out to scout the Ninovo Supply Depot. Thanks to the Field Relay she was thankfully able to borrow, she can easily remain in contact with headquarters for her trip, allowing for back and forth communication with less distance issue.

Seeing the location with her own eyes helps Catherine come up with promising attack approaches.

Klaus huddles over his workstation, carefully using drones to scout the area around the barracks to check topography as well as listening in to every communication he can catch.

Alek wanted to take one last glance at the prison to see what he could glean that someone might have missed.

He scanned the area with his imager and did see a couple of interesting things. He jotted them down along with some notes about possible ways to exploit them.

Yoko had suggested the Ninovo Supply Depot and stuck to her guns, even if it didn't seem like where the tacticians and such had ended up thinking about. So it was that she made her way there and took careful notes, intercepting enemy communications from a safe distance away while also scanning things with a pair of binoculars. She got some juicy stuff on patrol routes, defenses, supplies... and some gossip that was less helpful. Well, she supposed it WAS only a supply depot; No reason their communication channels wouldn't include a few less official conversations.

Ninovo - Partial Disclosure:
Ninovo Supply Depot
Ninovo is a large supply depot in Central Akos. It is a tiered site, with a strong point upon hills to provide a good view of the surroundings. Its entrance is off the main Akos highway, but the majority of the valuable supplies contained within are held in secure buildings on the high ground. Inside are the expected mech and vehicle hangars, but also numerous warehouses and storage buildings, an administration building, troop barracks and defensive points for tanks and artillery. Ninovo was a supply point that has built up gradually over the decades as it came to be used more and more due to its strategic location, but the base infrastructure is poor. It has no static defences, only infantry manning a couple of field guns.

Arnad Air Base dominates Central Akos. It is located off the main highway and it is a fully functional Air Base and barracks. It is comprised of two major runways, an air control tower, six large hangars, a walled power generator and barracks, dozens of smaller buildings and helipads. The flat grounds occupy a lot of space. It has anti-aircraft turrets scattered across the site. There are aircraft visible in open hangars and on the helipads.

Jericho Prison
Fortified walls, with turrets, extend either side of the heavy gates of the main entrance. The rear of the site is steep hills and cliff face, a natural defence, augmented by more turrets. There is a large overhanging command structure that allows observation of the whole high security prison. A visitor centre is built outside. Inside the prison grounds are large cement prison blocks. The whole site is well protected by armoured vehicles, prison security and nearly a company of mechs. Recon suggests there is a power generator that all the turrets run off inside the walls. The AFFC would be satisfied if we took this site, as it has prisoners they wish to free.

Kerkina - Full disclosure:
Camp Kerkina
This utilitarian campus and training site was once a Lyran missile defence site. After the Draconis Combine claimed the world it was converted into a camp for the Militia. Rasalhague has continued to use it in a similar fashion. There are multiple expansive teaching buildings, a gun range, drill grounds and many vehicle and mech hangars. There is also a small runway and a number of helipads for vehicles, as Kerkina also trains paratroopers and jump infantry. The drill grounds, a large paved area, is usually home to marching troop formations led by experienced instructors. Camp Kerina is in the north of Central Akos and surrounded by woods where military games and training exercises regularly take place. The main campus only has a few older fixed defences from back when it was something more.
