Salvage Operations Part 2 (D7 EA-LA Various Event)

Budai and the Southern Akos Militia Barracks have been conquered. Once again it's time to collect whatever valuable salvage can be found. Both sites have a lot to hunt for. At Budai there were the above ground battle sites, but also the below ground area. The Barracks had a bunch of vehicle and mech hangars to search along with the battlefield remains. As before, mechs with arms could carry things while others would have to drag it back, drivers could collect salvage and return it to the dropsite and technicians could identify it. That was after it was all located of course. All of this formed a very familiar activity to most mercenaries.

Those with time to spare are encouraged to take part, contributing however they best can. This event runs over two timeslots, but characters only need to allocate one timeslot of the two to participate. This should be made clear in the post.

Participants should choose how they wish to assist. There are three steps for this event. Finding salvage, identifying the worth and transporting it. Each step has different options. Participants should pick an option for each step, which will mean either an auto-pass or a roll for each step. At least one option with a roll must be taken. I.e. You can choose options that auto-pass twice, but not for all three steps. The choices picked, if successfully rolled for, will award Salvage Points. These grant bonuses as below. However, should you fail any roll you will not be able to contribute Salvage Points. If you avoid choosing option d) for any of the three steps then your final Salvage Points total will be doubled.

The three characters who contribute the most salvage points will gain 0.1 fame.

Additionally, depending on the total Salvage points, special mech choices will become available. These mech choices will represent what you find and that can then be pieced back together into working condition. The choice of mechs will depend on the overall number of Salvage Points. These mechs will be available for Day 9 Combat. The person who picks the mech can choose to which PC's lance it is assigned. No lance may receive more than 1 mech. Exact details can be seen below.

Step 1 - Finding salvage
a) I'll find some! - You look for salvage yourself, checking inside buildings, at battle sites and among wreckages. This is an Investigation [perception] roll TN15. This awards 1 Salvage Point and 1 per raise.
b) I'll check the logs! - You search the combat logs, reports and communications for information on where to find salvage. This is a Computers [intelligence] roll TN25. This awards 3 Salvage Points and 2 per raise.
c) I'll find out! - You speak to some of the captured crews and other prisoners to learn what salvage and supplies are nearby. This is an Interrogation [Perception] roll TN20. This awards 2 Salvage points and 2 per raise.
d) Leave it to others - You're not here to find it. Besides, isn't it everywhere? You auto-pass this step. Gain 1 Salvage Point.

Step 2 - Identifying the worth
a) I've seen this before! - You've been involved in ordering enough supplies and equipment that you can pinpoint the items the Angels need. This is an Administration [Intelligence] TN20 roll. This awards 3 Salvage Points and 2 per raise.
b) I know the value of things! - You've participated in enough business deals to know what's expensive and what's not. This is a Commerce [Awareness] roll TN20. This awards 3 Salvage Points and 2 per raise.
c) I have the technical know how! - You have enough expertise in your field that you simply know what's useful or how to repair damaged parts that have been found. This is a Technician: Any roll [Intelligence] TN15 or Medtech [Intelligence] roll TN15. This awards 2 Salvage Points and 1 per raise. Spit and Polish grants a free raise on this roll.
d) It looks fine - You don't know or don't care what it is worth. You think it's probably valuable. You auto-pass this step. Gain 1 Salvage Point.

Step 3 - Transporting
a) I'll do it - You will drive a vehicle or pilot a mech to help transport the salvage. This is a Piloting or Driving [Reflexes] roll TN20. This awards 2 Salvage Points and 1 per raise.
b) Let me persuade a driver - You can negotiate with the salvage crews and drivers to have some salvage transported back. This is a Negotiation [Awareness] roll TN20. This awards 2 Salvage Points and 1 per raise.
c) Let me navigate - You help get it back indirectly by pinpointing the fastest routes for various salvage teams. This is a Navigation [Intelligence] roll TN25. This awards 3 Salvage Points and 2 per raise.
d) Need assistance - You've found salvage. Just leaving it in a pile and letting someone else transport it is fine. You auto-pass this step. Gain 1 Salvage Point.

Salvage Points earn:
50 Salvage Points = +0.2 Strength, +0.1 Impact. One special mech choice for the top scorer that must be from Category 1 open.
100 Salvage Points = +0.4 Strength, +0.2 Impact. Two special mech choices. The top scorer can pick from Category 2. Second place can pick from Category 1.
140 Salvage Points = +0.6 Strength, +0.3 Impact. Three special mech choices. The top scorer can pick from Category 3. Second place can pick from Category 2. Third place pick from Category 1.
180 Salvage Points = +0.8 Strength, +0.4 Impact. Four special mech choices. The top scorer can pick from Category 4. Second place can pick from Category 3. Third place can pick from Category 2. Fourth place can pick from Category 1.

Charlie having his confidence shaken earlier, he taken a more careful approach. His scouting finds some good stuff. He quickly evaluates what can be used and what is best left behind. He then manages to lead the crew back to the dropship the quickest way possible.

Alek had been busy for a few days with various tasks but he showed up again to help with the salvage operation, at least as much as he could. Alek wasn't really much help at all identifying or assessing salvage but he was a damn good pilot.

So he let the mechanics and general smarties gather the valuable stuff and then he gave it a smooth jostle free ride back to the drop site.

Heading out after a morning not being sure how to help, Yoko found scavenging technical equipment to be much more simple. Sure, she didn't find anything particularly special, and she had to rely on others to transport it back to the base. But she was contributing, being part of the team. And that was a huge relief after everything.

Klaus looks over the wreckage of the battle.

"Well, there certainly isn't a lack of items to choose from." The wreckage is devastating, but at least this time the logs look intact. It's easy to find information on Budai's warehouse, efficient business they were. Klaus looks over the logs, noting from his memory what the Angels have used, and making that of special notice.

"Hey Rico! Same arrangement as before?" The truck driver offers Klaus a gap toothed grin as they extract a bounty to take back to the base.

Butcher collected located a fair amount of potential salvage but was having difficulty sorting through it. He wasn't sure what was good or not.

Reading through a book labelled 'So, you're serving a mercenary company' Yori spends a few hours carefully combing through the scrap. Her methodical approach does net a few useful parts, although her insistence on carefully categorising everything by colour, shape and weight does waste a little time.

Ezmeralda had a more than vested interest in finding good salvage today. If they didn't find some operational mechs she had won a victory best died for and lived to her deep misfortune.

Fortunately she found some good stuff and helped haul it off with the Commando she had borrowed from her lancemates.

Alex logged very easily into.the computers and checked the logs. The Penguin found something of interest that the techies might want to take a look. That piece of tech was a breeze to carry over to the dropsite.

Elle had already been forced to dip into the supplies she'd salvaged previously. The casualties had been significant and it had taken all morning to tend to the worst of them. The doctor didn't like leaving the rest of them, but they were stable enough for the remaining medical staff to tend to until she returned.

For now, she needed to see if she could find some more supplies and equipment. Fortunately, with a little computer work she found what she was looking for.

Loosely based on the motto: I do my part, Richard again took part in the salvage operation.

His contribution was not the greatest of all, but all in all he was good at recognizing important parts, assessing their value, and then transporting them back to base.

This was the sort of stuff Hrafnhildur really enjoyed. Her eyes were pretty good at picking out what was good and what wasn't, though to be honest most of everything looked good to her. Combine that with her know how on this sort of stuff and she picked out a bunch of good things to take back. By now Hrafna was getting used to the area so she was quickly able to come up with a route that got her precious salvage back with little delay.

Results

(As the maximum amount of points has been reached...)

There is ample salvage to be found in Budai and at the Barracks. Some of it is damaged and much will need to be stripped from destroyed vehicles, but quite a lot is either working or fairly easily repaired. All the additional mech parts found at the Barracks are quite the relief for Eric and others in the Angels who had begun to grow concerned. Better still, Budai was putting together a gauss rifle equipped mech to do their weapon tests. It will need completing, but Kenna promises to have it ready in a couple of days! Naturally, the AFFC are pleased at the haul. The Angels have to be careful to catalogue which bits are battlefield salvage and which are not.

Strength increases by +0.8 Strength and Impact increases by +0.4.
