Rolling On The Mat (D10 EM Gym)

Butcher went through some warm up exercises as he prepared for combat drills for the day. He jogged in place, his head lolling irregularly as he relaxed his neck while doing so. He had his hands wrapped and was shaking out his arms while he got ready.

Richard was also warming up. He copied in principle what John did, only he had wrapped his prosthesis in extra fabric, after all it was made of metal.
The storm that was brewing over Arkos had caused his prosthesis to have some input lags and Richard's normal reaction time in his right arm was delayed from time to time, how that would affect the training he didn't know.

"Hope you slept alright. Did you want to work striking or grappling?" Butcher asks.
He continues his warmup routine, making sure he was limber enough to not pull anything.

He rolled his shoulders and jogged on the spot, making a few heaves in the air in front of him. In response to John's question, he nodded and said, "Was quite good, Yori is recovering very well, so that helps me not to think too much about it." He clasped and unclasped both hands and rolled his shoulders a few times. "Let's see if I can still hit."

John nods at that, then slows to a light footed boxing stance, throwing a few practice punches away from Richard.
"Glad to hear that. Hope she's back to full health soonest. Now, let's find out if you still got it," he agrees with a nod.

Richard got ready and climbed into the 'rin'g. He went back to the basics he had learned during recruit drill all those years ago and,.... you could tell he was veeeeeery rusty. His punches had form, but clearly lacked practice and his movement was very wooden.

Surprisingly, Butcher wasn't doing too much better, though he was making a passable effort. Mostly he was just dodging and ducking out of the way, which he was apparently very proficient at. But he wasn't landing much, or effectively.

Richard adapted to John's movements, which improved his position, but his punches were still weak and his movements stiff. "Shit. I guess I got too used to the cockpit."

"Gotta get used to punching in the cockpit too then," Butcher replies, putting a few good hits in. He's definitely using sparring strength, not fighting strength, so it might sting a bit but he wasn't putting anyone out.

Richard snorted as he took the blows, "My main job so far has been to run and gun" he quipped. He improved his position a little more, although Richard thought it was probably because he was getting warm.

John dodged a bit more, and failed to land any hits again. "Yeah, I guess we fight in two completely different ways. I definitely tend to get myself in a bit more trouble by running in at folks."

"Well, direct confrontation is unsettling for most I think, especially lighter mechs" he said, trying to feign a punch, but an involuntary twitch of his prosthesis ruined his maneuver.

The feinted punch is ignored and the mechanical twitch is not taken advantage of. Instead, he steps back for a moment and then steps back in aggressively to try and throw Richard's pace off with footwork.

John's sudden lunge put Richard on the defensive, he was more focused on not getting hit by him than landing a hit himself, and so the swing Richard tried was just a bad distraction than anything else. "The style break is effective on all accounts." snorted Richard.

"I've found that keeping your opponent guessing gives an advantage. Can't surprise 'em as easily but when they're paranoid about everything, they're not focused on hurting you. Too busy covering their own ass," he says, as he throws a high jab intended to draw Richard's attention and pull his focus.
The next moment he's standing at Richard's side giving a tap of a punch right in the kidney, not wanting to actually do any harm.
"Keep 'em confused until you see your opportunity."

"Oooof, I see" snorted Richard as he was hit. He tried to copy John, but without real success. "Let's take a break for a minute" he said.

"Alright," John replies, lowering his hands and moving to his bag to fetch his water bottle.
"We need to work your reaction time I think. Get your coordination up."

Yoko arrives late, for once, walking in with a big yawn. She wears a tellow plain tanktop with black tights, a yellow stripe down each side, "Oh, good... mooorning you two. Mf."
She sets down a bag near Richards, "Looks like you two have been working hard already here."

John waves to Yoko. "Hey. How's it going?"
He sips his water and leans against the wall.

Richard nodded as he was heading for his water bottle. "I may be rusty, but it's fun,... even if this stupid storm today is very unfortunate." he said as his prosthesis twitched strangely.
As Yoko came in he greeted her too "Hey Yoko! Ready to rock?"
