After Mei beat some sense back into him, Richard headed toward Medbay and fought his way toward Yori's room.
After getting through the usual red tape (reason for visit, etc, etc.) he was led to her by one of the assistants. He knocked on the door of her hospital room....

There's a slightly longer pause than usual, implying Yori had not been just standing at the door, but it opens in a few moments. The Lieutenant was wearing a hospital gown and squinting slightly without her glasses.

Fortunately, she was reasonably sure the blur sounded and smelt like Richard and so:

"Richard. Good afternoon. Would you like to come in?"
She stands back and waves, slightly stiffly at the sterile room.
"They have request I remain a few hours more for observation. I believe I am recovering reasonably well but agree that catastrophic internal bleeding, if it should occur, is best managed here."
Pausing slightly
"And how is your bullet wound?"

He went into the room and after the door was closed he took Yori in his arms. He squeezed her gently, tightly enough to convey that he was glad to see her back in shape, but also careful enough not to damage any stitches. He would maintain the embrace for a while, then break away and give her a quick kiss.

"I'm glad you're okay," he said with a smile.
"I just have a bruise" he pulled down the neckline of his shirt to reveal a large bruise on his right shoulder. "Nothing that won't heal in the next few days."

He went into the room and after the door was closed he took Yori in his arms. He squeezed her gently, tightly enough to convey that he was glad to see her back in shape, but also careful enough not to damage any stitches. Yori blinks twice in surprise before gently squeezing him back, having to stand on her tiptoes.
"Oh...thank you. My lance came by to wish me well, but none of that hugged or kissed me. It is quite nice, I am sure it will improve any placebo related to my healing."

She has to bring her face almost against the bruise to see it clearly.
"I am glad it was not more serious. However, I am still saddened that you were injured helping me. I did not mention it at the time but."
Looking up at him extremely seriously but with her usual neutral tone.
"You attempted to shield me from bullets with your body, that was kind. A person's character is more visible under stress, when they do not have time to think. Your first instinct was to risk yourself to save me." now frowning slightly "It was also foolish as I would have experienced considerable grief had you been killed doing so."

After seeing that Yori was visibly struggling with her sight, he asked, "Have you misplaced your glasses? Do you want me to look for them?"

He listened to Yori and had a smile on his face, "And I would have had considerable grief if you had been killed, too... besides, I was the one who was best armored of the two of us."
He looked around the room from his positon to see if he saw Yori's glasses anywhere.

After seeing that Yori was visibly struggling with her sight, he asked, "Have you misplaced your glasses? Do you want me to look for them?"

He looked around the room from his positon to see if he saw Yori's glasses anywhere.

It looks like Yori's glasses had been placed on a bedside table and then knocked off by someone, there was a small glint of light on glass on the ground behind the curtains.

"I remember taking them off before they extracted the bullet, but the relatively potent painkillers disorientated me for a time."
Not that she minded them when someone was pulling a bullet out of the back of a rib.

"You were. And you were the most skilled. It was impressive how you flanked and took down that woman."
Yori stops blinking and something dark passes behind her eyes for a moment.
"The conflict was my fault. I...failed to land my first shot when necessary. That nearly got us both killed. I apologise and will try to work on my marksmanship in the future."

Richard walked over and looked behind the curtain for the glasses. He picked them up and checked to see if they were okay.

"She was a strong adversary, certainly not an ordinary innkeeper. Her movement, her shooting skills... everything indicates that she must have a military background." He nodded at the thought.
"Apology accepted. You and I can get some practice in on the range, I could have sworn I just missed her by a hair more than once."

Richard walked over and looked behind the curtain for the glasses. He picked them up and checked to see if they were okay.

"She was a strong adversary, certainly not an ordinary innkeeper. Her movement, her shooting skills... everything indicates that she must have a military background." He nodded at the thought.
"Apology accepted. You and I can get some practice in on the range, I could have sworn I just missed her by a hair more than once."

"Oh, there were."
Looking at the blur on that side of the room
"....Over there. That makes sense."
The spectacles were much loved but seemed to be in good condition.

"Agreed, she was skilled and quite fearless. I did not expect our expedition to end in a shootout with a B&B owner who was part commando. I will look forward to our time on the range."
Curiously, squinting over at him.
"Has command responded after we filed our report? I wrote a lengthy and comprehensive summary of the day's events."

Richard took a corner of his shirt, cleaned the glasses, went back to Yori, brushed a strand behind one ear and put the glasses on her.
"That should help."

He shook his head. "No, I haven't heard back yet,...but a sherrif was there this morning. I think the boss is waiting for you to recover before he calls us to him. In any case, the mysterious inn owner can not be ignored. What kind of person has an Exterminator in his garage?"

He thought for a moment. "If she is an Assassin, it would also explain why she was so strong and why the whole hangar is full of valuable and rare items."

"Sergeant Zhou has been very supportive of our relationship. I sought her out for advice before our date and I believe it proved useful. I should go speak with her and debrief. Although I will of course observe relationship privacy protocols."
Yori takes protocols very seriously.

"It would. Or maybe she is just an eccentric collector with too much time on her hands?...And a fully operational ancient battlemech? In either case, it made for a memorable second date. Surprising, but memorable."

"That explains a lot" Richard laughed "Mei is really a treasure, without her I probably wouldn't have come this far. She can be pretty nosey when she wants to be. As for Miss Burton..."
he frowned. "Whatever she is, she won't be able to control the mech without her neurohelmet, and until the boss calls us in front of him, we shouldn't worry about it any more unnecessarily."

Even though I've been over this a hundred times, he thought.

"It will stay in my memory in any case, but let's do something calmer next time. Maybe a holovid evening?" he said with a grin.

"Her inquisitiveness was useful. She values your friendship, but because she is 'nosey' she also knows all about you."

Yori nods about the helmet and then winces, stepping back and making her way to a comfortable chair which she carefully settles herself in.
"A holovid is a classic form of date. We can cohabitate somewhere, consume snacks, share warmth and enjoy entertainment. I will of course be slightly judgemental about your choice of vid."

As Yori winced, Richard made a worried face, was he straining her too much right now?
"Then I'll just have to make an extra effort in terms of choosing the holovid,.... but I think I'll find something good for both of us,.. Is there a genre that you completely exclude from the start?" he said.

"Historical dramas are....inaccurate. It can be painful if I have done any study into the period. That would be one genre I would like to exclude."
She nods to herself, clearly happy with this.

"I'm pretty easy to bait with salted chips or peanuts, and as for the movies..." he thought for a moment. "I fluctuate between fantasy and horror it all depends on my mood of the day."

He let out a short sigh. "I'll be back in the field by the way, Command has given my Lance a Phoenix Hawk and expects me to help capture the camp."

Yori starts forgetting to blink again.

"I see...I hope you will be safe. In fact, I would very much like you to focus on the mission and survive unharmed. We cannot have movie night otherwise."

Pause.
"I am not usually overly concerned about the performance of others in battle, but...."

"I know Yori, i know,.." he put a hand on her cheek. "The mission objective is quite simple and we will have air support. We raid the camp from different places and gamble that the recruits won't manage to man their mechs. My Lance is fast and now with better armor, the mission is very tailored to us."

Yori nods and almost sort of half smiles.

"It is, I am sure you will be back quickly after another victory. In the meantime I believe I will read some inventories to calm myself and allow my heal to continue."
