[Day 8 LE Hanger] A New Challenger Enters The Arena (Expecting)

[Yori Hakamada]

The relative of the hanger is disturbed by a hydraulic whine as Yori operates a life this way and that, inspecting the shape of a Shadow Hawk mech. Every few moments she pauses to jot down some finds in her commpad before continuing the inspection all the way around the towering machine.

Alex continued with repairing the mech. The Penguin was stained with oil and sweat. The progress was slow but there.

The relative of the hanger is disturbed by a hydraulic whine as Yori operates a life this way and that, inspecting the shape of a Shadow Hawk mech. Every few moments she pauses to jot down some finds in her commpad before continuing the inspection all the way around the towering machine.

Alek occasionally took time to go to the hangars to check on things. He was no mechtech in the slightest but he knew his baby as good as any. He'd felt a bit of a hitch in her arm when he patrolled yesterday and was going to talk to the technicians about when he saw Yori jotting more notes as she so often does. He also saw Alex doing some work and waved to the small Mechwarrior before approaching Yori

"Yori! Checking out a new mech eh? Shadow Hawk is a good one Hammer does good work with hers in the field." He proclaimed a little louder than strictly necesarry but that seemed to be his default when he was happy. And he certainly appeared happy the way he smiled down to her and then back up toward the Mech she was noting.

Loud is probably good otherwise there's a decent chance Yori would not have noticed him, or anyone else.

"Master Sergeant Korolov."
Salute, other hand still holding her commpad.

"You are correct, this is one of the new mechs that were salvaged. I am checking it over before we give it to Pauper."

"It is something of a surprise gift. When he asked who was getting the new mech I replied 'someone deserving' so he did not think it was him.'

Alek made a somewhat casual salute back grinning while he did "Well look at you. That's a nice thing and a bit more subtle than I'd expect from you. Seemed the more straight forward type. You're full of surprises Hakamada." He said with a voice full of humor.

"Think he'll need a lot of practice before he's comfortable in it? Changing mechs can throw a pilot off sometimes."

"I...did not intend to be subtle. But he misinterpreted my answer and then I did not correct it. So I may have been perfidious."
She's clearly not quite sure what to think about that as she begins lowering the crane back to ground level.

"He will certainly need more training, but I believe it is just a larger panther, so I hope the skills will come quickly and he will not be killed in battle."
Gesturing politely at the device
"Would you care to join me on the remaining inspection? I would value your insight."

Alek chuckled "there's a reason I said subtle and not deceitful. A Harmless surprise, nothing to be worried about." He said with a smile

He looked to the pad "Oho! I'd love to help out, I've experience with the chassis at least If not this specific model." He said leaning close to look down at the pad.

Yori holds the pad out so he can get a better view as she lifts the Crane up, taking it to the two weapon systems on the mech, the small LRM and the massive PPC.

"Oh, that is good. I have often conflated the two before."
Indicating the recently salvaged mech.

"I have noted the mech's internal computer is still having trouble with calculating its balance given several of the pieces are salvage. Do you have any advice on how quickly that will resolve?"

Alek looked at the technical read out. Despite his years Piloting mechs most of the numbers and read outs still looked mostly like gibberish.

But he took what he felt was the right amount of time scanning the page with a few nods and a couple "Ah" "mhm" "mmm" sounds

"Well in my experience usually only takes a few runs for the sensors to recalibrate and get used to any strange or new parts." He remarked mostly from a place of practical experience rather than technical knowledge.

"That seems inline with what I was told by the mechtechs."
The lift takes them up until they're gazing into the wide mouth of the PPC, Yori reaches out and rubs at some of the carbon scoring.

"This looks very well used, maybe too much wear and tear?"

Alek looked at it closely leaning out he sticks his head in looking around a thoughtful expression as he leans back "Nah maybe not cleaned as often as it needs to be but probably hasn't seen as much use as my Drakon. Nothing to worry about I'm sure." He said dusting off his hands from any carbon that got on them.

Alek looked at it closely leaning out he sticks his head in looking around a thoughtful expression as he leans back "Nah maybe not cleaned as often as it needs to be but probably hasn't seen as much use as my Drakon. Nothing to worry about I'm sure." He said dusting off his hands from any carbon that got on them.

Yori looks thoughtful and nods, ticking something off on her commpad.
"Reportedly it is over 80 years old. Still, there is no reason that with good maintenance such a weapon should not work for longer."
The lance goes to the side until they're looking into the (thankfully empty) firing ports for the LRM.

"This part is new, I'm told it was salvaged from a hovertank they found nearby. Do you notice any signs of damage?"

Alek nodded "these weapons are built to last should have another 80 years in it at least."

As the moved on he glanced at Yori with a small smile but then looked to the LRM as she pointed to it and he gave it a look over

"Well it seems in working order, techs did a good job of cleaning it up. Some chipping and scoring but nothing that should impact performance." He reported as he turned toward her and leaned against the railing

Yori notices the smile and blinks, assuming Alek is a big one for LRMs
"It has definitely seen a lot of action, just so long as it does not jam on Tsuge. Sometimes he gets carried away with his fire."

Glancing at her leaning comrade.
"Oh, I should have asked you how your day has been."
Pause
"How has your day been?"

Alek chuckled "I'm happy to share, only if you actually want to know. You don't have to pretend to be someone you aren't. All the niceties and such." He said with arms crossed over thick chest. He gave her a look with a raised eyebrow

Yori immediately turns around and goes back to surveying the mech.

Over her shoulder.
"I am available for light to moderate discussion though, depending on subject. But one of mutual interest is appreciated."

"Well we could discuss my new mech, recent events in our lives since we last spoke, the merits of aquatic pets, books, learn more about one another to seeif we have common interests. That seems lie a good list to start." He said regarding her "any of those strike your fancy?"

Yori's head slowly turns over her shoulder.
"You have a new mech?...And you would like to discuss aquatic pets?"
She takes her glasses off and quickly cleans them.

"Those are interesting subjects, I would like to discuss both of those."

Alek grins a little "I knew you would." He said amused before moving onto the first "Yes the company recovered enough of a Battlemaster recently to make a functional one. In light of my years of service and belief that I'll do a lot of damage with it."

"Big bastard 6 pulse lasers, a machine gun, and a LRM 20 to rain hell down on someone. Plus the big kicker is two fists to lay down some good ol fashioned metal on metal punishment." He talked with an excitement about the armaments of his new death machine
