Squeezing Off A Few Rounds (D4 LA Expecting Range)

[John Slaktare]

Butcher was at the maintenance table against the back wall breaking down a semi automatic pistol while looking through a technical manual. He had cleaning brushes and oil and seemed to be caring for the weapon meticulously.

[Yoko Lee]

A woman enters at a certain point, wearing a brown leather bomber jacket, thigh-high stockings, and booty shorts that almost seemed glued on. She looked around a bit before spotting Butcher, "Ah, I'd heard you'd gotten to working here now. In charge if I'm not mistaken?"

Yoko walked over as she said this; She'd seen Butcher around before, and they'd talked a few times. But she didn't know him terribly well. Still, there was something nice about a man who believed in personal space and not talking your ear off.

[John Slaktare]

"Yeah. They needed a new Gunny and thought I'd fit the role. Work-wise at least," Butcher confirms with a nod.

"Here for me, the range, or both?" he asks, since he was now the head gatekeeper of the firearms.

[Yoko Lee]

"Neither, actually. Well, the range I suppose. But first I was hoping to have someone look at my pistol; I've not used it in months now with the dropship travel and all the unpacking and scouting. I want to make sure it's all lined up correctly still so I don't need to worry about it when push comes to shove."

[John Slaktare]

John nods at that.

"I'm playing catch up right now, learning the hardware. I could find the manual for your model and look it over now, which might take a little. Or I can hold it overnight and have one of the infantry guys look it over when they come in. Just let them go for dinner a little while ago, unfortunately. Up to you."

He starts putting the semiautomatic pistol back together.

[Yoko Lee]

Yoko nods and sets unzips her jacket, pulling out a strange, small holdout pistol of some sort. It lacks an ammunition clip on its handle and just has a little flap on the bottom of instead, revealing it to be some sort of black market Needler weapon. Twin dragons in gold and red twist up the pistol's grip and along the short barrel, with an intricate greed design behind them.

"I'm in no rush, really. Just got back from salvaging, could use a sit down."

She proceeds to sit across from Butcher and lean back in her chair a bit, putting her boots up on the table.

[John Slaktare]

"Ah..." he looks at the pistol.

"No technical manual for this, is there? Does it got a model number?" he asks.

He inspects it, able to identify function at least, but it certainly wasn't his revolver.

[Yoko Lee]

"It's... not in that manual?"

Yoko's eyebrows go up before she bring a hand towards her face, lightly chewing on the tip of her thumb thoughtfully for a moment before shaking her head, "Unfortunately, it didn't exactly come with an owner's manual. And I... well, I didn't ask. I knew how it worked, knew how to reload it, and that was it."

Her face went from relaxed to quite troubled; Of course she knew it was an illegal, customized firearm. But she figured if anyone had information on such a weapon, it would be a mercenary company.

[John Slaktare]

"This manual is for Imperator handguns," he says, flipping to the cover, revealing the symbol of a big arms company.

He finishes putting the pistol together and holsters it. "Lets poke around in the back. There are some manuals on handling nonstandard equipment from previous Gunnery Sergeants that I saw."

He stands up wit the manual and invites her to join him in the armory.

Yoko sits up in her chair before standing as well, nodding as she picks up her gun again. May as well say some of what was on her mind, "I really don't know anything about it. It was a colleagues before it made it's way to me. It certainly wasn't something he picked up from a retailer anything since they're a little... um, well... illegal, where I'm from."

[John Slaktare]

"We got some stuff back here that's illegal in some places. So I'm guessin nobody is worried about that here," he says, unlocking, opening bringing Yoko in, closing and locking the armory.

He leads the way to a couple of file cabinets. "It'll be in one of these. I skimmed, but haven't memorized."

He starts in on the drawers. "What size round does it fire?"

[Yoko Lee]

"It fires two millimeter high speed needles from the melted down metal."

Following Butcher in, Yoko looked at the drawers he went over to, "I know it's at least twenty years old, and he called it Dragon's Teeth. But I never really stopped to think whether that was a brand or something personal for him."

[John Slaktare]

Butcher nods, searching through the files. He pulls out a thick booklet and flips through it. "This is it I think. It's got a guide on after market and modified needlers, so it probably fits the bill. Says a special polishing kit is needed."

He hands her the manual and shuts the drawer, then moves to a tool chest. After a bit of rummaging he holds something up that says 'needler' written on tape stuck to the outside.

"On a roll."

Yoko slid onto a stool after pulling it near, perching on top of it before taking the book; It was written in English, thankfully, and it was definitely the right weapon. The gun was apparently originally of Capellan make though, and it wasn't a set of complete manufacturer specs. Instead the page had the info filled in as it could, and N/As or Unknowns filled in as appropriate. If nothing else there was a parts list, since it wasn't hard to take apart once people got their hands on them, and there were lists of small manufacturers who made replica parts for the weapon in the support section of the entry.

"Huh... well, thankfully this isn't all in Chinese. And I have some numbers for parts, if I need them. That's a start."

He nods at that. "We'll see if we need to order anything when we take it apart. I imagine it's seen some use over the years."

Butcher sits at the table next to her and opens the little kit that had some odd and specific tools for this purpose. "Alright. Let's take a look."

[Yoko Lee]

Having never taken Takeshi's pistol apart before, Yoko hoped everything was okay as she handed the old gun over from her stool.

"Just as a warning, there is ammunition in the thing; Some melted down tacs and steel paperclips."

[John Slaktare]

He nods at that. He looks over the instructions and tools and slowly begins the process, being very careful and meticulous. He at least had pretty steady hands.

It wasn't long before he had it taken apart, observing the inner workings laid out. He used the tools from the kit to clean, measure and align according to the diagrams and steps.

Occasionally he would look up to check and make sure she wasn't freaking out because he missed something.

Yoko definitely wasn't freaking out. Instead she leaned forward with her chin in her hands, watching as the different parts of the small thing came apart: the sighting, the casing, the plasma heater, the trigger mechanism, the feeding tube, the barrel, the cooling grille, the material chamber, and the caps. The outside of the weapon was in great shape for its age, the inside though...

While nothing was "broken", it was clear that the inside was dirty and hadn't been fired in a while. And judging by some of the fastenings and joints the little thing had been submerged in some sort of dirty water or such at some point, judging my the thin lines of brown residue.

John gets up for a moment to grab some cleaning solution and oil. Returning quickly, he starts going through each part, very carefully and attentively cleaning it. Some of the residue seems to have left some discoloration that requires a bit of polishing. The little cleaning kit seems prepared for that though, with a thin, soft file.

A few minutes later it all looked clean. Certainly not as good as new, but definitely much improved. He inspects the cleaned parts once more to make sure it's all good. He offers her the manual to see if she wants to double check his work.

Yoko certainly both keeps watching and takes the manual when offered, "Is it important for the inside parts to be so clean like that then?"

There's something almost therapeutic about watching the process of meticulously going over each part, the only sounds the quiet rub of cloth on metal and the wind outside. Like ASMR mixed with watching a marathon of "How It's Made" or something.
