Battletech: Planet's Fall

Ezmeralda sat down and scanned the channels she could pick up in this system. "Half down, most in Swedish, the rest are devoted to propaganda or counter-propaganda about the invasion," she turned it off and flopped back into the sofa, "I should have bought some vids in before we left."

"Whew, what a day!"

Alison had no idea anyone was in the breakout room as she pushed open the door and walked in, pulling her hood down and shaking her purple hair out without knocking her shades off.

"Ah well, A falta de pan, tortillas" she chuckled as she started undoing the jacket and walking further in.

"Hey, take a seat. The couches survived the trip pretty well," she said making sure there was room to share the couch she was on, "I think the aerofighters took out some of the broadcast stuff, a lot of the channels are down."

"Huh? Oh!"

Alison looked over at the woman.

"My bad, I was not paying attention in my desperation to get out of this jacket. Is there like a drier or something warm I can put it on?"

She frowned looking at the TV.

"Wonder if I can patch us into anything. Box looks old as hell but I usually work miracles with less."

"If you have some vids I think you'll get further but knock yourself out. I'm up for seeing what board games we have if that is a bust though," she got up and walked over to a bin of supplies.

"You want a towel to dry off with or a blanket?"

"No need for a towel, that jacket kept me very dry except my shoes" Alison slipped her shoes off and found the warmest place to put both them and her jacket - a heater would do - before sitting in front of the tv box to see if she could do anything with it.

"Wait they have board games? For real?" She looked over at the woman for that "oh by the way I'm Alison. You're one of the mech warriors right?"

"One thermal blanket," she tossed it down beside Alison.

"Uh, yeah, *we* have board games. You new? They are mission critical on garrison details and long redeployments," she laughed as she realised that was definitely true, "That I am; Ezmeralda, nice to meet ya."

"Oh thank you" Alison took it quickly and draped it across her legs.

"You're not kidding are you, really? This is my first warzone yeah but still, board games? I was a kid last time I played one of those. Although I guess it makes sense, if you get stuck in a place with little other entertainment it could keep boredom or stress away. What do they even have?"

"Well, cards happen a lot too," she shrugged, "Sometimes you have to be combat ready if the alarm goes but, you know, sometimes you are on defensive stand by for weeks at a time and four players can do most board games."

She started looking through the shelves, "I got through a full playthrough of Road to Terra with my previous unit. Oh, hey! Spyraid, that's a fun one."

"Never had to be combat ready so I'll take your work on it."

Alison sighed, giving up with the TV and getting up with the blanket wrapped around her.

"No chance with this, no feed from satellites. Likely all gone I assume, so games it is! What's spyraid?"

"The board is a facility divided into areas. One player plays security and moves several pieces on the board looking for the spies while one or two players have a little map behind a blind where they move their spies. Guard player has to place the targets in the areas. Spies search for their targets and have to escape, guards search for spies. And there are some action cards to mix things up a bit. Spy gadgets and bonus movement and searches, that sort of stuff."

"What do you think?" she asked as she kept looking, "We also have a couple chessboards... Robo-race... an old karaoke machine... checkers?"

Alison managed to resist a laugh at the game. It reminded her of something from not too long ago...

"Well the karaoke machine would be cheating with a professional singer like me I imagine. If the game works fine with two players let's give that a go. It sounds really fun."

"That seems fair, we'd need to get more booze for karaoke anyways," she laughed.

"Alright, let's set this up. You want to spy or guard?" she asked as she opened the box and laid out the board.

"Spy, always the spy" Alison said with a grin "calls out to me for some reason."

"Fine by me," she passed her the blind, "So I have to keep an eye on you then?" She gave her a mischievous smile.

There was a laugh.

"Maybe, maybe not? Most people keep an eye on me and see nothing, so I'm sure there's nothing to watch" she winked "so let's play!"

"Oh, we will see... spy!" she laughed, "Alright, I put my guards here and..."

And then they played lots and lots of boardgames.
