I Need to Know (D10 EA Expecting)

"Yeah, I'm with Mei-Ling. And yes, I like you, a lot. Mei-Ling likes you too. But the question I got is how do you feel about that and us," John says with a nod.

"Not that I would expect you to be able to tell me right after suddenly telling you. But I would be interested in knowing what you feel about me and what you feel about her."

The gears that had found the right speed originally in Hrafna's head slipped and the whole thing sputtered. She stood there looking at John for a few seconds as Hrafnhildur.exe was rerun as administrator.

"You. And Mei Mei. Looks like I don't need that robot after all." She shook her head and ran a hand through her hair. "So you're sweet on me. And Mei Mei is too. But you and her are sweet on each other. But you are also sweet on me. And Mei Mei is too. Hoo boy this reminds me of my first hay festival where I completed in the hay jump and I had two boys askin' me to go with them. But not at the same time. So I guess it's not like this. But kinda."

The buttons on her coveralls were tugged at a few times before she continued. "So liiiiiike, you and Mei Mei won't be together anymore? Is that what's happenin'?"

"We are still. I just..." he thinks for a few moments. "Neither of us is too worried about being with other folks. Life's too short to worry about stuff like that. And people don't own each other. When I talked about you and I starting a farm together she imagined stuff I hadn't thought about, but she seemed to like the idea. Like of you and I having a farm and her being there with us. And she wasn't just thinking about it from a farming point of view. I think it's maybe a conversation that you and her should have and then all three of us should have. Just... I don't really talk about this kinda stuff a lot with folks, but she's been trying to get me to be more social. So, I kinda wanted to just tell you about how I've felt. And I've felt it for a while, just didn't say nothing cause I don't really like to. And now I'm talkin' too much cause I don't really know what to say. But yeah, I am, like you said, sweet on you. And I think she is a bit too. And I think that's okay, but it's probably a lot for you."

There was no visible embarrassment, but there is a hint of discomfort. Though it seems to be from how much he said rather than from what he felt. Like the more he talked the more he wanted to stop talking.

[Hrafnhildur Ylfasdottir]

"Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay." Each time she said the word it was slightly different. "Hey now, Mei Mei wants to jump into our farm? I like that. I like that. You thinkin' about settling down with her? And me? Seems like that life would suit you, or at least it seems like you could use it. Maybe Mei Mei too. Me? Yeah, that's my speed. This all right here is fun and everything, were doin' something big. But that simple stuff is for me."

Hrafna took a deep breath. "I like hearin' about what you think, Big J. I'm gonna need...some time and stuff. For that big thing you said."

John nods at her reply. "Yeah. Though I'd definitely suggest talking with Mei-Ling too. Alone or with me. Since it's about all of us," he suggests.

[Hrafnhildur Ylfasdottir]

"We can talk, we can talk. All together even. Might be best the way I see it. Makin' plans and such about farms and things like that need everyone involved. I think...I think that would be pretty neat. But talkin', talkin'.". Her hand went to her hair to twirl a few strands around her fingers. "Not gonna lie Big J, I didn't expected to hear that, not that it's bad or anything. Just unexpected."

"Well, it ain't the kinda thing I like talking about much. But Mei-Ling's been getting me to be more open. And I kinda always... felt a certain way... since I first saw you covered in grease and sweat workin in this hangar. Like I kinda knew who you were. I think you're prolly quiet about it like me. But if you want to talk about it... well, that's prolly a good sign right?"

Hrafna was quiet for a few seconds. When she said it was unexpected she really did mean it. John was a good friend, someone who always had her back. But he wasn't much of a sharer and that was okay. In fact, she shared more than enough for the both of them.

"I was keen on headin' home after all this. Settin' back up with what I was doin', chasin' ducks and fixin' those tractors. That would have been fine, just fine. But this farm idea and the people it would involve...well I think I'm keen on that too. Yeah, I wanna talk all about it with you and Mei Mei. Whatever happens happens, but regardless of the sitch-ee-ay...sitchyooation that comes from it I'm thinkin' I like the idea of stickin' together."

He nods at that. "That sounds great to me. I'd be sad to see you go, but if there's a shot at keeping us together for any reason them I'll be glad for it."
