He nodded "Hopefully we have enough time to get to know each other." a smile formed on his lips "Largely incorrect? Never mind" He shook his head.
"Manga and strategy? Hmmmmmmm,....." Richard thought alas, stood back up and rummaged through his bookshelf. He ran a mechanical finger over the titles until he stopped. He pulled out a few manga from the pile and placed them on the table.
"This is 'The Saga of Rokugan's Fall' unfortunately the author died just before he could finish the series, but, big but, that's also how it gained its fame. Since the Great Final Battle was never resolved, it is the point of contention among fans. There are many views, tactics and strategies put forward by the supporters of both sides. But let's go back to the beginning. At its core, 'The Saga of Rokugan's Fall' revolves around the fictional planet Rokugan. This planet is inhabited by the so-called Rokugani. A race of human-like creatures who, however, have lived for thousands of years in a culture that resembles a mixture of the Chinese, Indian and Japanese late Middle Ages," he began. I say human-like because the Rokugani have one major difference from normal humans: They are tougher, stronger and faster than normal humans. In addition, they have access to an elemental magic that even untrained warriors can use to further exploit their potential.
"Our protagonists, however, are not Rokugani, but normal humans who enter this world through a gigantic portal found in a cave on Terra. This portal ends up in a part of Rokugan that the Rokugani have named 'The second Festering Pit'. Of course, they invade for a reason: Rokugan is home to a resource the Rokugani mistakenly call 'jade'. This jade, which we call Ghoststone, is the only defense against the Creatures of the Great Darkness, a mysterious power that is suddenly doing its evil everywhere on Terra and is gradually bringing the great states of mankind to their knees. The deposits of ghost stone on Terra are almost completely mined, and so a coalition of Terra's remaining forces are trying to secure the deposits in Rokugan," he explained, hoping Yori would come along.
"It should be said that the Terran military resembles that of the early 21st century: machine guns, platoons, artillery, etc. So in the manga, supernatural warrior-philosophers meet ordinary soldiers. The attraction of the series is that you can see the two commanding generals' angles of view: Akodo Kaneka and General Joachim Rühle. The manga goes into great detail when it comes to battles and very often reads more like a war report than a manga." He had to pause and reached for his tea.
