[Klaus von Zinzer]

"I've seen what less than proud Lyran parents look like Lady Guttenburg. I am seeing the opposite."

The wind rustled with a chill of early spring.

"Would you like a coat? " Klaus begins to remove his suit coat, remembering his manners

[GM Yuusha]

"..."

Lia was carrying her noteputer under one arm. She checks the distance to the dropship first. "Uh, please." It was a couple hundred meters away.

[Klaus von Zinzer]

Klaus drapes the coat over the girl's shoulders.

"We should hurry for this part"

He's not terribly fast, but Klaus attempts to double time it, panting at the exertion

Lia is only a bit better and that was mostly due to her being younger. She was no paragon of fitness.

Once they were up one of the ramps they could make their way to one of the elevators.

[Klaus von Zinzer]

"Well, at least that warmed us up" Klaus wheezes as he summons the elevator. "So, what brings you to join us for this operation?"

[GM Yuusha]

Lia offers Klaus his coat back. "Thanks again." She smiles a little as he asked about her. "I didn't have much to do and my father thought it would be good experience. He's trying to keep me out of trouble. Somehow, an active warzone is less dangerous than me going to clubs." She rolled her eyes. "Like that makes any sense."

In spite of the exertion Klaus cracks a smile, especially grateful as the elevator arrives and offers a respite from the cold

"Ahhh, I think he meant "safer for your reputation". My own had a similar prioritization: my reputation over life and limb. Well, they got their bargain: Klaus holds up gloved hands. " And an eyeful on top of it"

[GM Yuusha]

"Yeaaa... what happened to you anyway?" She asks as Klaus had brought it up. Lia follows him into the elevator. It closes slowly behind them.

[Klaus von Zinzer]

"A "friendly fire incident during a training exercise" is what they called it" Kurt replies drily. "I would refer to it as "criminal stupidity shielded by rank". I was taught a lesson that sometimes enemies are more reliable than allies."

He pauses for a moment. "It's why I want to ask. Your father prevented you from answering before. What were you going to say? I was asking about what the two of you might want"

[GM Yuusha]

"I'm sorry." Lia had said about Klaus' friendly fire incident.

She laughs gently at his question. "I probably shouldn't say since he didn't want me to. I'll share something else instead. One thing I would like is to try piloting a battlemech."

[Klaus von Zinzer]

"You want to try it out?" Klaus mulls on the idea. "I think that can be arranged. Not in combat, obviously, but I am sure that Technician Foraker can go over the basics to setup. Let me check our inventory"

It would not hurt to have her goodwill, and who knows, maybe she has a talent for it

[GM Yuusha]

"So much!" Lia admits before catching herself and lowering her voice back to normal levels. "R-really? That would be amazing." She is quivering with excitement. However, she gives Klaus a stern look. "What do you want in return?"

[Klaus von Zinzer]

What I really want I doubt you either can give me.

"Honestly?" Klaus pauses. "Trust. Trust that all of us are riding the same tide. I don't expect it right away. Consider it an investment"

[GM Yuusha]

"Very well." She crosses her arms and nods. "I shall agree to that."

The elevator pinged as they reached the floor with the cafeteria.

[Klaus von Zinzer]

"This way Lady Guttenburg." Klaus extends an arm as a guide, showing her the way.

" If you were spending time at clubs I am sure this is a departure. Please be careful of our brand of sordid recreation" the words are playful, but there is a hint of seriousness. " There are some veteran gamblers onboard, who would he happy to relieve you of pocket money."

[GM Yuusha]

She waves a hand, preferring to trail behind him a few steps.

"Are there now? So I can avoid them, whereabouts do they meet?"

[Klaus von Zinzer]

"So you know to avoid it? Well, the break room after dark." Klaus' lips tug at the corner of his mouth. " Though if you must visit there for some reason, I feel it would my duty as an officer and a gentleman to escort you." The tone is dry, in spite of the expression on his face"

Lia smiles slightly, but she neither confirms nor denies Klaus' suspicions.

"I'll try to remember that." Would she really?

As the pair round a corner the cafeteria comes into view. Lia lets out a pleased noise. "That was much quicker than the first time I tried to find my way here."

[Klaus von Zinzer]

"It took some work to find it" Klaus grabs a pair of trays and starts to load up coffee and snacks for the tray.

" I had to requisition a guide my first week. Now it's a rite of passage"

[GM Yuusha]

"How was it when you switched from the military to mercenary life?" Lia asks, following along and picking out items for her tray. She didn't seem fussy about food and drink.
