Do the Arm Twist (D8 EM Gym Expecting)

After taking a few falls Butcher nods to Yoko and says, "Alright. Now, once you have the opponent on their back you're going to start taking control of their arm. They're going to be trying to prevent you from getting a grip. They might even try to throw punches, but they're in a really poor position to do so. They'll have no power to their punches, so just gotta make sure they don't hit you in sensitive spots like the mouth or nose. Easy enough by keeping your face turned away from them."

He continues explaining the next few steps of the move, and explains how it works step by step.

"Oh, and by the way, with weight differences like yours and mine, you want to use your lower center of gravity to help you with the trip, and then move as far up on the opponent as possible. the more weight you put on the abdomen or chest the harder it is for them to throw you off."

[Yoko Lee]

A nod, "Chest or stomach? Got it. Not on the face then?" she asked with a cheeky sort of smirk?

[John Slaktare]

"Not on the face. Not right now at least. But not too far off because you will end up with a leg over the opponent's face. There are some techniques I can show you another time though."

He guides Yoko through the arm bar process and allows her to practice the move.

[Yoko Lee]

Yoko was looking forward to that, certainly. One step at a time though. She knew from past experience not to get too ahead of yourself when it came to learning stuff for fighting or combat; Basics before leaping into anything fancy.

She kept following Butcher's instructions step by step, practicing the move as he had shown it to her. Indeed she was surprisingly strong for her size, having a kind of wiry toughness about her for one reason or another.

After she practices the arm bar a few times, getting used to it, he pauses while he is in it.

"Now, this is where you can be pretty brutal and take someone out of the fight. If you get the arm bar locked in like this, you just hold the arm to your stomach and lift your hips to stress the elbow until the arm breaks or dislocates. Try not to do that during sparring. I like my elbow."

[Yoko Lee]

"Maiden's honor. I'd hate to inconvenience the armory anyways, not to mention I imagine there's a certain lady who might take issue with my doing that."

She let go of him then bowed deeply, "In fact, I think I'll leave it there for now. Matches a lot of what I was looking at in that self defense book, but first hand experience is hundreds of ties more useful. I will be back next time though, if you're still holding classes like you said."

Yoko looked around as she dabbed her face with a small towel, "...did you have any other students you were teaching things?"

He stands and moves to his bag for a bottle of water. "I mean, she'd probably be unhappy and expect you to sub in while I was out of commission," John says, his mood seeming to shift a bit with the end of the lesson.

"I don't teach any formal classes though. One on one or two stuff really. I'm not a fan of large crowds. A handful is okay though."

[Yoko Lee]

"I can understand that. If it's a bunch of people, some get lost in the crowd or don't get the attention they need. One teacher per five or six students is about the limit, at least in my untrained opinion. Guess some of it comes down to personal preferences though. If you're more effective teaching with just one or two, no reason not to stick with that."

[John Slaktare]

"It's a comfortable number," John replies.

"I'll be here every other day, even numbered days, for sparring and combat training. Don't know if you'll want to practice that much, but I'll be here to help out and teach new stuff. How does the wrestling feel? A good fit for you?"

[Yoko Lee]

Yoko thought a moment before shrugging, "I guess. It's awkward to practice with all the holding and close contact, not something I'm used to. But that's entirely different from how practical it is, and it's definitely practical feeling. Having been grabbed by people before, it's the sort of thing that would be more than handy to have; Even if it's not something I'd put to use in the situation, just having it in my back pocket would be a load off my mind."

[John Slaktare]

"All the more important then. After the arm bar training I can focus on escapes and reversals with you. Teach you how to get out of someone's hold. There are some good defensive techniques."

[Yoko Lee]

"Well you have my thanks. Sorry if I'm not the best student, sensei."

She gave a bow with her arms at her side, a quick thing before looking back up.

"Anyways, I'm off for now. Have a nice rest of the day Butch."

[John Slaktare]

He nods to her. "You're a good student. I enjoyed working with you," he replies in his neutral way. "Look forward to working with you more in the future. Come on back."

[Yoko Lee]

Yoko laughed and slipped her bag over shoulder, "One day I'll get a reaction out of you, I swear. Until then, take care of yourself, okay?"

A flippant salute and a wink and Yoko was out.
