Pick a Target Part 2 Vote (D4 LM Event Headquarters and Briefing Room)

Post by GM Yuusha » Tue Jan 18, 2022 8:25 am

(Optional)
As a few days prior, the lance leads and other key military staff are ordered to gather in the Briefing Room to go over possible targets and to agree which to strike. There were less than before. It was late morning and the discussion appeared to have been made more casual than the last, as there were fresh muffins and bagels available. Additionally, lances could send a representative instead of the lance lead: it was not mandatory for lance leads. Like the meeting before there was more information from orbital scans and estimates of the benefits of attacking each site, but this time it was augmented by the Angels' reconnaissance efforts. Most of the information of enemy forces present at each site was available. It was recent and reliable.

Image

A map was shown depicting the continent. Key civilian sites were in red. Blue sites denoted key Militia sites. Purple were secondary military sites. There was also an orange dot for their current dropsite.

Image

The map was zoomed in to the immediate operational zone. Eric reminds attendees the area was designated Zone One. A new target would be chosen today to be hit in a couple of days. Three sites of interest remained. Some would be more challenging than others, but there would likely be more rewards in terms of salvage with more challenge. As before, he wanted everyone's opinions. However, he did stress there would be a need to hit the Barracks, or another major Militia site, in the future if the group was to increase their impact on the overall invasion effort. At least, as far as the AFFC were concerned. The Angels command staff had different opinions on which target to hit next. There would be a chance for questions and discussion along with making suggestions. Choices were targets A, C or D.
Each site is given a rating along certain scales.
Strength predicts how much damage the Angels would take. This will always be a negative. The Obsidian Angels need to keep Strength high.
Impact predicts the contribution toward the contract. This can be positive or negative. The Obsidian Angels want to increase Impact.
Threat predicts the effect on the enemy's perception of the unit. This can be positive or negative. The Obsidian Angels hope to keep Threat low.
Salvage predicts how much material gain there may be. This will always be positive. Salvage will indirectly raise Strength. The more Salvage the better!

Scales: (from least to most)
Minimal -> Minor -> Low -> Moderate -> High -> Very High -> Extreme
• Pryvidok
Prediction: Clear of Militia presence.

A) Myron Maintenance & Repair Site - Maintenance facility. Military target.
Prediction: Low opposition. Closest site to our dropsite. Slightly aids contract objectives. Chance to seize enemy equipment, which will boost our Strength. Easy salvage.
Strength: Low decrease
Impact: Minor increase
Threat: Minor increase
Salvage: High
Myron Maintenance & Repair Site
Maintenance facility and military target. Open planned base with roads and pavement. Some defensive turrets along the outskirts and on the approach. Inside are a number of mech and vehicle hangars, a large workshop, two administration buildings, a small barracks, multiple large storage buildings, a car park and helipads. There is also a power generator, which handles the turret power too.

Defences:
• 8 defensive turrets (Dual AC-5 x2, Dual LRM10 x2, Large Laser x2, Dual SRM6 x2)

Defending forces:
1) Patrol group
-> You're first [Prevent their escape]
2,3,4) Small militia garrison
-> Switching the power offline [Take out the power generator ASAP then defeat the enemy]
-> Overcoming the defenders 1 [Engage and defeat]
-> Overcoming the defenders 2 [Engage and defeat]
5) Last defence group [Defeat the enemy leaving their hangars]
-> No last stand
6) Reinforcements [Defeat the reinforcement group]
-> You're not invited

Points of interest:
• No BOSS
• Maintenance facility

Bonuses:
• Conquering the site will mean 0.1 lower Threat increase
• Salvage: Intercepted communications suggesting a Stalker is undergoing basic repairs and can easily be taken
• Conquering the site will mean 0.1 lower threat increase and an additional 0.1 fame gain for all lance leads
• All who scouted the site gain 0.2 fame
• B) Communications Relay Outpost Szekeres - Communication Centre
Prediction: Clear of Militia presence.

C) Southern Akos Militia Barracks - Small barracks. Military target.
Prediction: Moderate opposition. Notably aids contract objectives. Smallest Militia garrison on the continent. Could hit the enemy in the area hard. Moderate salvage potential.
Strength: Moderate decrease
Impact: Moderate increase
Threat: High increase
Salvage: Moderate
Southern Akos Militia Barracks
Small barracks and military target. Semi-walled barracks base with a few defensive turrets. Inside are a few mech and vehicle hangars, an administration building, barracks and a storage building. Pavement inside. Outside is a training yard and a few smaller buildings. The overall commander of the Akos Militia in Southern Akos is stationed here. Captain Astrid Gunnarsson is a young tank ace transferred to the Akos Militia to oversee their armoured training.

Defences:
• Walls
• 4 defensive turrets (Dual AC-5 x2, LRM20 x2)

Defending forces:
1) Fast patrol group
-> Get them quick! (2 light mechs, 1 tank, 1 hover vehicle) [Prevent their escape: Any enemies that escape will raise threat and/or reinforce the enemy]
2,3,4) Moderate militia garrison
-> Smash the eastern defences (Light mech, 2 turrets, 1 tank, 1 VTOL) [Destroy everything and make a hole through the walls]
-> Smash the western defences (Medium mech, 2 turrets, 1 hover vehicle, 1 VTOL) [Destroy everything and make a hole through the walls]
-> Breach the gates (Light mech, medium mech, 4 tanks/support vehicles) [Destroy everything]
5) Akos Militia Captain and Adjutant
-> Panzer division (medium mech, light mech, 2 heavy tanks) [Defeat the enemy Boss and adjutant to win]
6) Militia remnants
-> They're escaping! (2 hover vehicles, 4 tanks) [Prevent their escape: Any enemies that escape will raise threat]

Points of interest:
• BOSS - Akos Militia Captain Astrid Gunnarsson [Tank ace] in a Behemoth Heavy Tank
• Barracks

Bonuses:
• Salvage: Nothing additional
• Conquering the site will mean 0.2 lower threat increase and an additional 0.2 fame gain for all lance leads
• All who scouted the site gain 0.3 fame
D) Budai Development Inc. - Weapons Research and test site. Military target.
Prediction: Moderate opposition. Aids contract objectives. Well guarded private research business working for the KungsArmé. Good salvage potential, but harder to crack than Myron.
Strength: Moderate decrease
Impact: Low increase
Threat: Low increase
Salvage: High
Budai Development Inc.
Weapons Research and test site; a military target. A large walled compound in the hills, with a good vantage point. Turrets in key locations. Multiple medium sized buildings inside and a few large hangars. Some helipads, a large open paved area with some car park space. Some fortified positions in and around it. Votes:
Each Player Character may vote for one of the five possible target sites. Officers (Rank 2.5+) contribute two votes to their choice of target, rather than one. The target with the most votes at the end will be the designated target for attack in two days' time.

Players may optionally make a single roll to sway NPCs to their choice of target. The highest roll will sway the chosen NPC. Raises do not count to the roll, but any free raises will each increase your roll total by +5. If you have the NPC as a Connection you gain a free raise per level of devotion. E.g. If you have Lakshmi Kaala as a Devotion 2 Connection then you would gain 2 free raises to a Tactics roll to sway her to your suggestion.

Eric Voelker (worth 8 votes). Target: Southern Akos Militia Barracks. Swayed by Commerce [Intelligence].
Iria Nopera (worth 5 votes). Target: Myron Maintenance & Repair Site. Swayed by Strategy [Intelligence].
Kurt Guttenberg (worth 5 votes). Target: Southern Akos Militia Barracks. Swayed by Negotiation [Awareness].
Lakshmi Kaala (worth 3 votes). Target: Budai Development Inc. Swayed by Tactics [Perception].

Seeing Klaus and the other tacticians and the captain all saying why it was important to go to the Southern Akros Militia Barracks, Yoko puts her two C-Bills behind the motion... and nudges Tess into doing the same even.

Spare had attended the meeting as Gianna's proxy on behalf of Trooper Company's first lance. True to form for the tall, lanky man, he'd said little to anyone.

Persuaded - and confident that Gianna would be too - of the merits of attacking both Budai and the barracks, Spare expresses that a strike at both sites could be highly impactful. If forces were to be more carefully husbanded, he leaned in the direction of making an example of the militia barracks. Then he returns to quiet observation.

Gianna's 2 votes for the barracks, in a really tough call.

Target Vote Result: Budai Development Inc. will be the target for Day 6.

In the late afternoon a message is sent to all the lance leads and other key personnel: the Angels would be mobilising to attack the weapons research site the day after tomorrow. The operation would begin in the early morning, with a wide flank south, using the forests as cover. Angels forces would then move north to hit the site.

Eric had been persuaded it was now or never for Budai. There was too much potential profit to ignore. They could make it up to the AFFC later by hitting major military targets. It wasn't like Budai wasn't going to please some among their employers' ranks however. They would have 75% of the contents of the site. The Angels would only be keeping a few gauss rifles, assuming the site had a number of them. The presence of many defenders, a heavy mech and the site's static defences would see some damage to their mechs. There was every risk someone might get seriously hurt, or worse. However, that was sadly a mercenary's lot in life. The salvage had better make up for the risk. The die was cast.
