D8:LA:Windyridge Guest House - Cave Exploring - Expecting

(Before Departure)

Richard was waiting for Yori in the mech bay, he had agreed with some mech techs to clear the rumble seat. He had already changed his clothes and was wearing his typical militaristic style again. Under his arm he carried his infantry armor and his old rifle, safe was safe.
Ancient caves once used by smugglers? If they were 'once' used, there is a possibility that they are still used and maybe supplies for the Angels could be secured there, after all: stealing from thieves is not stealing, is it?

Yori arrives in her usual uniform, a large revolver on her hip.

"Lieutenant"
Salute
"I am looking forward to observing your piloting skills from up close. Nobody has ever invited me to explore a cave as a followup to breakfast."
Pause
"It is quite promising."

The hangars were busy with ongoing repair efforts. There were even a few new mechs that looked nearly complete. No sign of the Spider, but Yori would recognise the Phoenix Hawk now being painted coal black.

The journey ahead of them would take some time. It was fortunate Richard's mech was one of the faster ones in the unit.

"Whatever we find there, or cn't, hopefully it will be an exciting afternoon" he said, grinning.

"Then I hope not to disappoint you with my piloting skills."

He made his way to the platform to board the mech. "Let's not waste any time, the road ahead is long".

"I think it is unlikely I will be."
Yori allows Richard to board his mech first, as is proper before joining him perched on the rumble seat.
"I believe this is where I would dramatically say 'let's go' "
Pause, throat clear

Flatly
"Let's go."

Richard started the mech, asked for clearance and maneuvered the Vulcan out of the mech bay and headed for Pryvidok. He tried to run on routes that were less civilized in order to attract as little attention as possible, as best he could manage in a 40 ton mech.

(Piloting: mechs [reflexes] roll please~)

The snow was nearly all gone along the path Richard took. However, there were still rocks and dips and streams. All manner of little hazards. They might not have been a problem for him usually, but today he was trying to impress... surely?

Richard maneuvered the Vulcan through the terrain as he had done many times before.

The mechwarrior did an adequate job piloting the mech safely and quickly East. The pair arrive north of town and continue in a circular way toward their destination, bypassing having to get too close to Pryvidok in case it startled anyone.

When heading South East and the guest house is soon due to be in sight there is an odd, unexpected warning from the Vulcan's sensors.

"Warning. Mech power up detected."

"Shit. Seem like we stand corrected Yori! Buckle up for potential combat!"
Richard checked his sensors and looked around to see if he could detect anything.

(Computers (Sensor operations) [intelligence] roll please)

There was nothing in sight. As his mech came to a stop he could make out the winding road leading to the guest house.

The reading was dead ahead. On the other hand, it was intermittent.

Then, strangely...

"Unknown mech signal lost."

Had it powered down or moved away? He couldn't tell.

"That's,.... strange." Richard tapped his sensor to check if it had a loose contact. "Looks like we need to do more research."

He maneuvered his mech further towards the caves under Windyridge.

Yori looks very curious.

"A proximity alarm? A sensor bluff? Someone saw us and started powering up a hidden vehicle? There are many possible options. At the very least I think we should proceed with the assumption there might be an active mech ahead."
Pause

"Your piloting so far has been adequate."

Yori had looked at the scanner display and map display. She had some ideas.

Certainly there wasn't an active threat any longer at least.

"Given the effective range of your mech's sensors and the ocean as a definitive edge."
Yori does some quick mental math
"We can conclude the source of the signal is either on or below the cliffs between us and the water, furthermore the intermittent signal suggests interference. It's unlikely to be ECM given we ourselves are not being jammed, rather it's as though the signal is behind some natural terrain, perhaps the hills, or a thickly walled building or bunker of some kind."

"Okay, our best bet is to approach the cliff and see if we can find anything anywhere, any objections?" he asked his co-pilot

"No objections, if that doesn't give us a clear reading we can simply rule out very possibilities by using the signal and scanning logically."
Yori nods at Richard.
"Let us continue the search."
